Our OL has never been the same since Travis Frederick was forced to retire. He was a very unique talent, high IQ player who can match up against the type of defender, but also was mobile enough to hit moving targets. Many wanted Linderbaum last season, but he was short armed and his frame was probably maxed out. Travis Biadiaz has been solid, but isn't considered elite by any means. AsthmaField made a good point about how they are changing run schemes where Biadiaz might be a poor fit.

Hearing multiple people within the scouting community rave about Schmitz. He doesn't have positional flex, but many think he can easily play Guard. Let's also not forget that Biad contract is set to expire after next season.

In my opinion, fixing the run game is more about fixing the OL then it is drafting an elite running back.

I can definitely get on board with Schmitz. I think he is a 3rd round. Ive seen him as a 2nd some places, but I think position value drops him. Day 2 alot of teams squint when looking at Money 5 guys. I think there some position flex in that I can think he can back up OG, but I dont see him being a starting caliber player there. I do however think he would offer enough flex to be of value while we still Biadasz in 2023

I dont think the OL needs to be fixed as much as assessed. From left to right we have solid players. However, as your and @AsthmaField comment suggests, we are switching to a different scheme and we need to look at how the players we have fit. I also think another Pro Bowl caliber player could make this OL a powerhouse

I agree, probably 1 more high-level lineman away.

Schmitz doesn't have length but he's 6-4, 320 and a good athlete with elite strength for the position. He's as close to Fredbeard as any player I've seen, and I think he's gonna be gone long before round three, maybe in the first. If he can play guard I'd take him at 26.

I wouldn’t mind Schmitz in the 2nd round. Joe Tippmann, C from Wisconsin, has more of the size to play G if needed and Brugler has him ranked at #43 I believe.

He might be the pick. I think it will be him or Mayer, Gibbs, or a corner.
 
A safe pick that will be a day one starter.
I think we need to upgrade skill offensive positions but you never go wrong solidifying the trenches.

I agree, if you want him, have to take him at 26 and I don't feel he is a reach at that spot.

They will have an opportunity to go in many different ways, wonder where he is going to sit on their board when the offseason is completed.
 
I'd draft him in a heart beat
I like Tyler and he came around last year, but IMHO, his ceiling isn't nearly as high as Schmitzs'.
 
Here are Tyler's stats.......obviously he's not elite but I think he's proven a worthy starter. He's on the last year of his rookie deal at $2.7M. That's a bargain for what you are getting, especially as a starter. Just me, but I let him play it out and consider his replacement in 2024.

But If we have a chance to draft an elite replacement who can also play LG, I'm all in.

There’s not a lot of guys this year that I am vehemently against taking like I have been in the past. Maybe just Hooker. I’d be happy with a bunch of different scenarios that have been presented.
