Johnny Football no classes at A&M

Not a fan of this at all. I understand normal students can take only online classes, but I'm not sure the NCAA should allow athletes to do so. It just seems like such an easy way to have college programs cheat and have someone do the work for the athlete. Am I wrong for thinking this?

Note* I am not saying Manziel will or won't do this, I just meant in general.

I see this as a bad precedent that athletes will use

He's majoring in Business so I'm less skeptical of his motivations of taking online only courses.

I agree. Is all of his classes 100 percent online or does he have to attend classes for midterms, finals, presentations etc.? If it isn't 100 percent online, a teacher can easily find out if he was cheating based on his performance in the classroom on those few days.

The Dallas Morning news had a article on this a day or two ago. Nothing negative, as it was more about the chaos of him trying to attend regular classes. They said tebow had some of the same issues at Florida and A&M was talking them U of F about how they handled it. They say at least right now, it's more crazy at A&M than it was at Florida.

With him being a strong student, this is not an issue with him directly.

But the overall theme of athletes taking online classes does raise some serious questions.

I've been hearing some similar things about him (and I'm an Aggie and would love to see him stay for another couple of years). Not that he hasn't been a good student, but that he's a guy who loves to party and his interest in school seems to be waning at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's already decided that next year is it for him, and he'll put in the minimum effort to keep eligible through the fall. Hope that's not the case, but I'm afraid it will be.

Good student or not - online classes can be just as challenging/rewarding as in-person classes. Especially when the in-person course is basically a presentation with 99 other students in a lecture hall... You can get the same information online.

I don't see an issue with this. As long as he's graded the same as other students he is doing nothing wrong.
