Jon Kitna's influence on Tony

Carson Palmer considers Kitna to be a mentor to him in Cincy, so it's not out of the question that Kitna has tried to help Tony out: not as a competitor, but rather as a more mature and wise vet.

This is the message I remember reading, you guys are out of touch if you think Kitna has the mindset that he cannot start here. Please.... Jerry did not bring him in as competition for Romo and Jerry bever doubted Romo at all. Kitna was an upgrade over Brad - end of story.

Mcghee is the heir apparant for Kitna as a backup - period.

I don't even think Kitna views himself as real competition.

I remember when he was in Cinncinati and Palmer came around, Kitna was content with the backup job - I remember him saying so at the time and I was shocked.

I like Kitna's attitude on things like this. I get sick of QB's crying about starting. Most dont realize that being a back up could extend their careers. You could play another 4-5 years as a back up.

I was hoping that Drew Bledsoe would except a back up role when Tony started his first year. I would have felt a lot better those first couple years with him as a back up.

Romo has been taking this ball protection idea to a new level since the off season.

But he went through a process this year.

- Not very much improved ball control wise (giants game). Offensive line also didnt play well. Presnap reads weren't like they are now either.

- Over protective. There was a period where we just couldn't score much because Tony wasn't passing the ball at all it seemed. Really started the first time we played against Philly.

- Then it seems like it clicked, and Romo was able to see the inbetween. It was actually in the giants game that I think this happened (2nd game)

Kitna knew why he was brought here and it was not to take over or compete for the job Romo. Dallas has a commitment with Romo but we also wanted a vet backup we could turn to.

Contrast that to Brad Johnson who stated he was not here to be a mentor from day one. Kitna at least has shown he can be useful in that role.

Carson Palmer has credited Kitna with helping him mature as a QB because of his influence and help. I am sure Kitna has done the same with Tony. I hope he stays here for another year while we groom McGee as the back up.

I know he has not been on the field during real games but is it just a coincidence that Tony is playing better with real competition in the house vs the pet cat we had last year (Brad Johnson). We seem to be throwing accolades around and I feel this guy has been slighted. Word was he was a great teacher, no evidence to the contrary from what I have read and nothing but support for the team and Tony. These details are so important, I freely admit I thought getting rid of TO was a poor move and that Bennett would have the breakout season Miles is experiencing. Way to go Cowboys, keep the surprises coming, hoping we have hit on the Mcgee QB from A&M and maybe one of the special team lads from this last draft (Brewster/Williams/Williams). Great time to be a cowboy fan especially after the way things went last year at this time with the team and Tony. Go Cowboys

If you think there was EVER competition in Dallas for the starting QB spot, you're delusional.
