“I’m here now,” Cooper said. “For me, it’s really just play. That’s my only goal.
“I’m not trying to right any wrongs. I’m not trying to re-write history. It’s really just coming out and improving and just play.”
La’el Collins, who has moved from left guard to right tackle to replace Free, was impressed with what he saw from Cooper in training camp and throughout the preseason.
“He’s starting to understand just the way that we do things here,” Collins said. “I think he can help us as far as continuing to get better as a player and just really getting that feel.”
Collins has no doubt Cooper will eventually become a quintessential fit for the Cowboys.
“This is the only place I’ve played offensive line at, but even in college the things that our coaches are teaching us here are off the charts compared to what I was taught in the past,” Collins said. “It takes a little time to kind of get that.
“For me as a rookie it took time for me to understand how coach wants things done and what we look for in different blocks, hands, feet, eyes, everything. So I think if he continues to carry that over into his play he’ll be a good player.”
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett applauds the efforts Cooper has shown since his arrival in Dallas.
You kind of get the notion Cooper is not quite where he needs to be yet - positive article, praise from teammate and coach, but the undertone of "he is not there yet" is present. Which aligns with Green getting the nod at LG - for now?
