Tony Romo has long reigned as one of the NFL's most polarizing performers.
Arguably a top-10 quarterback for the last decade, the Cowboys passer is still seen by many as the player who can't tug Dallas into the Super Bowl.
His boss says the critics are blaming the wrong guy.
"You know, certainly that doesn't sit in Tony's lap," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told KRLD-FM on Wednesday, via Fox Sports Southwest.
"That sits in our lap: (owner) Jerry (Jones) and our family's lap in terms of the organization. We have to, you know, do better at putting people around (Romo)."
It's a fair self-critique from an organization that for years overpaid aging players and failed to build depth. The Jones clan, though, deserves credit for quietly constructing one of the league's top offensive lines to bolster a cast of playmakers on offense that has the Cowboys sitting pretty at 7-3.

I agree to a point but at the same time its a collective effort, falls on all of them. No one person(s) can be blamed for that. Its why we watch, because a "catch here" "catch there" woulda coulda shoulda stuff happens and the whole dynamic is different.

I have defended Jerry on things I think are petty that some get upset over however I also think they took some risk that came back and hurt them. Roy Williams deal was a set back for the team and as much as I like Joey Galloway I felt that ended up setting the Cowboys back since that team was in need of more than 1 WR, they were at the end of their run and the 1st rd picks were needed.

No way you can blame Tony for the woes over these years. You put any of the elite Qbs with this team and some might be in traction. Tony kept the Cowboys relevant with garbage for an Oline and horrible defenses.

...And water is wet.

It's a shame more fans and media can't figure it out for themselves, but apparently they can't.

The running dialogue for years now is that Romo chokes under pressure and he can't do it in December. Some of the defenses and running games that he's had to play with have been atrocious. I don't think anyone could have gone much further than he did working with the same things.

This team would have been a perennial 5-11 team with just an average QB.
