If we weren't willing to overpay to keep these guys, we should have traded all 3 prior to the trade deadline and picked up some valuable draft picks to help rebuild this team.

The team still believed they could win. Imagine this team giving up before the trade deadline to rebuild.

Hindsight may be 20/20, but us? We're unrealistic sometimes.

That's working great for the Commanders, isn't it?

Giving a guy like Byron Jones 40 Million over the next two years isn't overpaying, its over-overpaying and it would mean in three years you will have 8 guys making crazy money with the rest of the roster UDFAs.

yep, you nailed it. This is where the front office continues to fall behind the better teams. Jones should have definitely been traded.

Team should have given up by Week 8. In retrospect yes.
In the moment, who here was declaring a mass selloff?
You?

If they end up giving Quinn something like 5/60m with like 25-30 guaranteed they may as well go for Clowney.

At some point every player can’t be overpaid. Good players win and good players cost a lot. Just the nature of the world. Byron won’t be a top 5 CB by next off season.

Not going to overreact to this 1 signing because I expected it and I think CB’s tend to be overvalued in importance to the overall team anyway. But letting all 3 of Byron, Coop, and Quinn test free agency doesn’t make sense and letting all 3 get away would be utter failure.

Yep. Comp picks make a lot of trades unviable. It's an injection of value into a situation that *neither* team pays for. To get a trade, you have to overcome that free value from the league.
Trades are always viable. FA signings... maybe not.
