Sorry got some bad info.

But Clowney is gonna get way more money than that

I would be fine with the Giants making Clowney the new overpaid Olivier Vernon. Or driving up the price so high that Seattle resigns him, can't resign Jarran Reid and Reid joins the DT free agent glut that lets us sign a good DT cheap.

Team should have given up by Week 8. In retrospect yes.
In the moment, who here was declaring a mass selloff?
You?

Didn't have to be in the middle of the season. It should be a pretty straight forward system. In the offseason one year before the contract is up, you try to resign the player. This way its a full year before he hits free agency and you have the best chance to sign him at a discount. If the guy is asking for too much money and you have made the decision its too much money, then you trade him. A full year before he becomes a FA his value is good and teams wont be tempted to just wait until he becomes a FA because its a year away. The decision is made in the offseason so you have FA and the draft to replace the player if you have to.

Makes the most sense. Of course Jones is always thinking THIS is the year they win the SB so its usually short term thinking.

What the Niners did with Buckner is a perfect example. Just traded him for the 13th pick in the draft. Im sure they talked to him about resigning and he wanted too much. Its the best way to do it. Niners now get the 13 pick in the draft to get a young players that will be cheap for 5 years.

If we weren't willing to overpay to keep these guys, we should have traded all 3 prior to the trade deadline and picked up some valuable draft picks to help rebuild this team.
Good in theory but a guy about to be a free agent doesn’t bring much more than a comp pick

If they end up giving Quinn something like 5/60m with like 25-30 guaranteed they may as well go for Clowney.

He'll be 30 at the start of the season.

He won't make anywhere near what Clowney gets

Actually you didnt get it. Tried to educate you, but alas, didnt work.

IF you want a direct answer then yes, I would have traded him midseason if I didnt trade him in the offseason if the right offer was made.

Quinn in my mind should get something like 2/17 with 5 guaranteed.

If he gets anything beyond that he shouldnt be retained.

Point is....IF...IF he has offers in the 5/50 range, I'd much rather go with a bigger offer for Clowney than to that range for Quinn.

That's all I meant folks! Promise.

The team still believed they could win. Imagine this team giving up before the trade deadline to rebuild.

Hindsight may be 20/20, but us? We're unrealistic sometimes.
Imagine the meltdown here if they had traded them in October.

Clowney doesn't have Tank on the other side.

My one on one ..and your one in one.

You dont get signed or resigned to big free agent lucrative contracts and become pro bowl caliber players because of the guy on the other side.

You don't get good value for guys in the last year of their contracts because teams are uncertain if the player they trade for will sign or for how much. I agree its better than getting nothing. If Dallas had traded Byron Jones, for example, for a 2nd or 3rd round pick, at least they get that pick for him. There is no guarantee they get a 3rd round comp pick because Jones signed with someone else If the Cowboys sign a CB to replace him, the Cowboys could get nothing for losing Jones. If they traded him that pick is their no matter who they sign to replace him.

But trading away Jones, Quinn, and Cooper may have sent a signal the team was giving up on the season. But trading Jones alone may be have been okay if the Cowboys had a backup plan.
