Jones Responds To Smith's Complaints

How dare natural elements be part of a football game.

I'd really mess with him the next time....

This whole thing is stupid anyways. Were there complaints when Texas Stadium first opened about the sun with the hole in the roof?

Yes they did. George Allen whined about it every time the Commanders played there. Brett Favre complained about the "crown" of the field being too high. Other coaches/players complained about the "transition" from sun to shade but it never seemed to be much of an issue anywhere else, just in Dallas.

Losers will always whine about something.

The stadium was mostlike built with LEED "Green" requirements in mind. One of the LEED requirements introduces the use of natural light into buildings when possible.

I wonder if Mike Smith will complain that his players have to play in the sun when they play at Arrowhead stadium or other places with fully open roofs? OMG the sun is getting in our eyes! How are my players supposed to have fun, get beaten, and collect their post game capri sun with this madness!?

Where did all these whiny coaches come from all of a sudden? Coaches used to have gonads, and deal with stuff like this.

They build bridges to nowhere,
Those of us who us these tools of incompetence,
Seldom become anything but nothing at all."

If it's a problem, Jerry will drop the curtain in future games. .

Why drop it? He has no reason too. Too bad for the other teams..

Cowboys have to play coming from the same endzone with the sun as well, and did, no problems there.

I think it would be a problem if they dropped the curtain only when the cowboys played from that endzone. Then he has a beef..

Until then, **** Smith and go watch film.

I believe it was Justin Timberlake who so eloquently quoted,

"Cry me a river."

and the funniest thing is that the complainers are supposedly 2 of the most "stand up" coaches in the league (not)

The 49ers/Texans game was on before the Dallas game. Arnez Battle muffed a punt during the game. It was punted from the shaded side of the stadium while he was waiting in the sunny side. Those kinds of things had to be dealt with at Texas Stadium in the past. Same goes for the new stadium and also occurs in Indy's new stadium.

The sun has an effect in open air stadiums as well. It is not as dramatic because there typically is no transition from shade to sun. I could not tell how bad the glare was on the glass. Sometimes the sun seems worse when the glass diffuses it. I notice that while driving into the sunset. Opening the glass doors may lessen that glare.

All in all it is not a big deal. You have to make some slight adjustments, but it is nothing that just stymies players from doing what they do. If it did then no one would have ever caught a pass or fielded a punt cleanly in Texas Stadium. Every stadium has certain nuances that players have to make adjustments for. It was one thing for Mike Smith to complain about it, but it was totally stupid to waste a timeout to do so. That was over doing it.

That just looks so incredible.

I mean i've never seen anything like it. Im going to love this new stadium.

It is a huge home field advantage.

Not only can Dallas grow more comfortable with it and play calling around it, they can use it as a tool in the coin tosses.

Atlanta chose to defer and thus insured they'd see the sun in the second half. Jerry or whoever makes that call decided not to close any curtains. No one owes the other team any favors. That sun is a natural element just like the snow or rain or wind we see in other places and suffer through.

I love it. You can smell the hate in these excuses. I love the smell of hate in the morning.

I'm surprised I have to explain this one to you. The difference is obvious.

Go out in your yard at 5pm and pretend to run a slant, heading due East. While turning back to where the quarterback should be, what do you notice?

A bright Orange circular thing staring right at you.

Now pretend you are in Texas stadium. And lets say its 1pm now. You run the same route, what do you see? Nothing. You know why? Cause the sun is directly above you. No big deal.

For those of you who want to compare it to an outdoor stadium, how many stadiums do you know that face east/west, and also open up completely in the endzone so that instead of seeing seats with fans, you have a direct look at the 5pm sun?

None.

Tint the windows. It will look good, and its functional. There is no "homefield" advantage when it comes to staring at the sun when you're running a route.

good Luck with that. How will we ever solve this very important issue?

ridiculous that any fan bring this up, let alone an nfl head coach.

There will be some classic photos taken at the new stadium. It looked great in person as well.

translation:

I (we) put alot of time, effort and money into designing a stadium and by no coincidence did we take into account the advantages we could expoit by building it at a specific angle, elevation, etc. to maximize our advatage during gametimes.

Let's see the Giants open the Doors during FG attempts, Minnesota and Indy have been accused of piping in crowd noise, and I don't hear any crying about the open end on Heinz Field that faces the river, there has never been a Successful 50 yard FG from that side, let's see, the Cold in GB and Minnesota's old Stadium, the Humidity in Miami, yeah, Cry me a river Coach Smith.
