6 year/ 30 mil

Which means Carolina will Franchise Peppers. That dream looks dead.

Edit: Apologies for the misleading title. The source now says "close to signing".
I didn't mean to mislead anyone.

it was never a reality. And if it was, our entire front office needs to be removed.

You do not spend 5 draft picks on 3 players at the olb position to then spend a boatload of money on a free agent olb.

That would be insane.

another thing 6 year/ 30 mil is pretty light for Left offensive tackles, best i remember even columbo got more than that for like 2-3 years or close to that amount

PANTHERS WRAPPING UP DEAL WITH GROSS
Posted by Mike Florio on February 19, 2009, 11:31 a.m.

As the deadline for applying the franchise tag looms, the Carolina Panthers could soon getting one of their big-name free agents signed to a long-term deal.

So that they can then slap the tag on the other one.

According to Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers are finalizing a deal with tackle Jordan Gross. The six-year contract would pay out $30.5 million over the first three years.

Once the contract gets done, the Panthers undoubtedly will apply the franchise tag to defensive end Julius Peppers, who then will likely piss and moan about being guaranteed a minimum income of nearly $17 million this year.

I like dreaming.

Although to be quite truthful I'd rather shore up a lot of areas and start Spencer. I am glad he wanted to come here though.

Don't you know you're not allowed to do that.

God forbid you contemplate an ideal scenario or a means for this team to impriove via FA.

You instantly are accused of playing Madden franchise football by the negative nancy's who in reality don't know there *** from a hole in the ground.

BTW- Had we signed Peppers, couldn't Spencer have competed for a starting MLB spot.

I love those "Franchise Peppers and trade him" responses to this news. Panther fan must think Jerry is going to send boatloads of picks for him.

LOL... So the people thinking it's unrealistic and/or unwise to spend a boatload on another mega-priced OLB are the ones who don't know their *** from a hole in the ground?

GROSS DEAL DONE

Posted by Mike Florio on February 19, 2009, 12:56 p.m.
The Carolina Panthers have finalized a long-term contract with tackle Jordan Gross.
According to Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald, the deal is done.
Gantt’s source is Gross himself, who said, “We’re done.”
Look for the Panthers’ next action to be the application of the franchise tag to defensive end Julius Peppers , making him the 13th recipient of the restriction this year.
