Like that they get a free look, but man, how badly did NY want to unload him to even agree to this with a division rival.
Probably for the same reason SF decided to send Lance to a team they played in each of the previous two playoffs….it was the best offer by a lot.

They did this to themselves by not paying attention in the off-season, or maybe just the common theory that they just aren’t any good at this.

Yeah that is legitimate. They must really believe he's shot.
He probably isn't the greatest fit for a 3-4. His best years were with Buffalo's 4-3. But Giants had two young backups so no sense keeping the older guy.

Yeah, there is hope for him but I can't imagine that we were the only place they shopped him to and could use a NT. The fact that they traded him to us, a division rival, means nobody else even offered a conditional 6th.

The giants have a 5th and 7th round picks invested in the position as backups. DJ Davidson is now 2 years removed from his ACL tears. Phillips looking at his contract was probably nothing more than a hedge against Davidson and Riley not being ready.

This was smart because if he doesn't make the final 53-man roster the deal is off. I'm sure the cowboys made it a condition of the trade.

Maybe they were just deep enough at defensive tackle that they weren't going to have room for him. I'm not that familiar with their defensive tackle situation. Don't be surprised if we end up doing the same thing..

I completely agree. They they are not very good at this. 36 wins over the last 3 years. that's an embarrassment. Imagine if they were just mediocre. Like the giants. I can only imagine if Dallas cowboy fans were forced to be Carolina Panthers fans for one year. The suicide rates would be off the chart.
