It would be great if the cowboys picked him up in the draft and i thought he would be a great second round pick if hadnt been picked up already, but watching nfl Mike Mayock he said most teams would be looking at him in the late third round. Is there something i missed I think he would be a steal in the second round. He did great agaisnt really good defenses in the big 12. So why are teams looking at him in the 3rd round?

This guy is a 3rd-5th round draft pick. Getting him in the 2nd is a huge reach.

because he's slow and strictly a slot receiver. And you want him in the 2nd? We have him on our roster, he's Crayton.

Because they hold this offense back.

Barber is fairly ineffective, and Crayton isn't at all a real threat on offense.

I don't care if anyone agrees, I totally agree. I said the exact same thing in another thread. He plays fast, he would be awesome in the slot and whoever compares him to Crayton is has never seen him play. Him being a slot guy doesn't mean he is not worthy of a high pick. People will doubt cuz he's not 6'2 215, he doesn't run a 4.3. This kid can play and would be a great 3rd round pick, but I'd get him in the 2nd.

you're the one who hasn't seem him play. Him and Crayton have identical games. He's def not an upgrade in the slot.

I'd never thought of it but yeah, they actually do have pretty similar styles of play. Maybe Shipley is a little quicker in a small area, but they are very similar.

Everything about them is extremely similar, like you said Shipley may be a bit quicker. There both Chain movers and 3rd down guys. The offense needs a big play threat in the slot, not another chain mover. KO would be perfect.

He's going to be 25 this year, has had injury issues in the past, and doesn't have any remarkable physical trait. Those issues will push him down the charts. He's been productive, and will add something to a team looking for a slot guy, but he isn't a special talent.

There isn't a chance that Shipley is a 2nd round pick in my view. His injury history alone would be enough to keep him from going that high. Add in that he's small, not particularly fast (though he's quick) and he's older than most rookies and you have a combination that should push him to the 4th round. 4th round is the first round that teams will take a guy that doesn't look the part AND has other issues as well.

His productivity in college really doesn't mean much to the 32 NFL teams. Sure they'll take a guy with his productivity over somebody else, but he was set up for success playing on probably the most talent laden squad in the NCAA.

I wouldn't mind having him on the roster, but I wouldn't want to give up more than a 4th to do it.

He does have one special trait that's being overlooked though. He is a great route runner. Romo would love the guy because he is going to be exactly where he expects him to be. I would have no problem with him being picked in the late third. In the second there will probably be too many other potential starters available to take him. This is a very deep draft in the first two rounds.

I'm a big Shipley fan, but I think he'll fall to the third day. Most teams will say that at 25 he's maxed out his potential. With our OL depth issues as well as Ogletree getting more reps, I wonder how much he would see the field.

I'd rather see Shipley replace Hurd instead of Crayton. I would love for WRs next season to be:

Austin
RW (yeah, I would love RW to be a WR on this team next season)
Ogletree
Crayton
Shipley

Oh, and our backs to be:

Barber
Jones
