Jordyn Brooks

Barham Overshown James Liufau Winters Robinson before Jerry starts throwing 2nds out the window let’s get to the second week of Camp . If Miami is serious about getting rid of Brooks his price should drop as camp continues .

This team is super low on 2027 draft capital as it is and the class is supposed to be much deeper than this year's.

So if the Cowboys trade for Brooks or another player they truly are going all-in for 2026.

Probably brought up already but just in case.

Broaddus is basing this on something Stephen Jones said.

Where did you ever think they were getting a “a 2nd or 3rd rd pick pre extension”?

That’s nonsense.
Pre-extension, Jordyn Brooks’ trade value was likely a Day 2 or Day 3 draft pick (likely a 3rd or 4th rounder), as he was entering the final year of his contract. This value reflects the premium of a proven, former first-round linebacker offset by the short-term rental cost and an impending $8.5 million base salary.

Because he was on an expiring deal, acquiring him meant either risking a compensatory pick if he walked in free agency, or committing to an expensive mid-season/post-season extension. His pre-extension value is comparable to other recent veteran off-ball linebacker trades, where teams weigh the cost of a high pick against the lack of long-term contract control. [1]

The team would inherit the guaranteed portions of the contract for the remaining years other than bonuses. So if the next year's base salary is guaranteed, the team trading for him would inherit that. If there are roster bonuses, the team trading for him would inherit that. Those things are included in the dead money for the current team if it cuts him, but not if it trades him.

Miami's dead cap if it cut him today would be $34 million. If the Dolphins traded him, Miami would be on the hook for his signing and restructure bonus money (already paid to the player), which adds up to around $15 million. They may also have to pay his $50,000 workout bonus because I believe that is based on offseason workouts.
That is not dead money. Dead money is money that has already been paid and is still against the cap when the player is gone.
