More DE's, CB's and SS's please. Looking at the list I would venture to guess we end up with a G and a LB with two of those 6th rd picks.

Dallas trades down and adds an extra 2nd.

Our first 3 pick are Spence, Nkedemiche, Joseph.

We feelin good?

A dream draft for me would be trading back 4-5 spots and acquiring an extra early 2nd round pick. With our 1st round pick, I'd be happy with Paxton Lynch, but I wouldn't be upset with a top rated DE like Spence or Lawson... With our first 2nd round pick (I think we can wait a few extra picks on Joseph), I'd want us to pick up the best DT on the board. Nkemdiche is someone with physical talent and versatility, but he has issues with character and lack of production given all his talent. It would be awesome if Butler was there at 34 but I doubt it. But I'm sure someone will fall who we don't expect, like Billings or Robinson, or we can always go with someone like Clark... Finally, with our second early 2nd round pick, I'd definitely go Joseph.

I think the first round targets (if we don't sit tight and take Jack or Ramsey) are Lynch and if not him, Spence. But I think the better value in the 2nd will DE and WR, with Safety another target.

I think RB is better for the 3rd round and we could have a late first/early second type of DT fall into the top of the 3rd round where we take them there or trade up into the 3rd for another pick. The draft on 1T will still have good players available into the 4th and 5th round, DT could easily be a position where the team lets the draft "come to them".

I can see that. I like Sheldon Day in the 3rd and Hassan Ridgeway in the 4th. We don't have a 5th this year so we need to take at least one DT in the first 4 rounds.

Yup, also Chris Whaley will have two years of time on the DL and if healthy, will be the equivalent of a mid-round pick at DT. Irving and Russell are more DE's in my mind but both will be better next year (or replaced) and able to take time at DT.

Didn't we cut Whaley last year? And hasn't he had injury issues all through college and the NFL?

He has been on IR the last two years. Injuries are obviously the key, but the team felt strongly enough about him to pay him a full salary to be on IR rather than waive him injured. I think he was considered a 3rd or 4th round pick before the injury his senior year.

But with two years in the program, he will know the playbook inside out and be prepared to step in immediately. Most draft picks would not.

Not a bad guy to have at the bottom of the roster, I guess. But I definitely wouldn't opt out of drafting a DT because of Whaley.

For sure, I don't pencil him or Terrell McClain onto the roster at all, but if the draft plays out where we use our early picks on positions like RB, QB, SS, WR and CB I don't think it would be the end of the world. You would still have OK/reasonable fallback options like that.
