I saw this in Broadus's Scouts Eye article and thought it was interesting.

*If Jason Garrett is true to his word and he is going to do everything in his power to get his best 11 on the field at all times, he is going to have to find a place for nose tackle Josh Brent.

Fully understand that the Cowboys have Jay Ratliff and what he brings to the game each week. Ratliff is an offensive coordinator’s nightmare with the way he can create problems for guards. In the Ryan scheme, there is no telling where Ratliff will line up and that makes it even worse on offenses.

In Brent, the Cowboys have a powerful man that is difficult to stop once he gets on the move. His upper body strength and power allows him to get push in the middle in the passing game, but he also has a lateral game in his ability to control blockers and work outside the tackle box and help on the edges.

It didn’t matter who was trying to block Brent, it was met with the same result, a negative play. There is talk of using Brent more on the nose and moving Ratliff to end.

Again in this scheme, Ratliff is going to be moving around plenty. The advantage of having a player like Brent is that he can spell Ratliff the wear and tear that he takes throughout the season.

A fresh Ratliff in the fourth quarter is just what Rob Ryan needs for his defense. As Brent continues to grow, so does the need to find a way for Jason Garrett and his staff to playing him more. That’s a nice problem to have

If I were DC, he'll be starting in the middle of Rat and Hatcher/Coleman. But that's just me though.

He was a bull on the field last year as a young pup. And if he's shown any kind of improvement then he needs to be on the field.

Even if he doesn't start, I bet he plays a ton.

Thank Gawd we hit on this guy with that seventh rounder.

we will find out, hopefully he goes out in pre season and shows he deserves a bigger role on the defense.

Spears will and should start at one DE spot. Hatcher will NEVER be as good as Spears. My God, I really wonder if some of you ever actually watch any of the games.

I like Brent, I seen him get pushed out of the way on some running plays but it wasn't due to being man handled. Brent was just picking the wrong hole to gap in. I think another year under his belt he should learn.

Everything I am reading suggests he is ready to take a major step forward this year. That would be a huge plus.

Josh Brent was one of the very astute JJ draft moves. Give credit where credit is due. If he is creating pressure in his second year, he will become a load in his 3rd and 4th.

Nice write up about rookie CB Joey Thomas. He may not turn into a starter but sounds like he could be a cold #4 possibly this year.

Between Spears, Ratliff, Brent, and Coleman we got 4 bullies down there

edit: Igor too

It sounds like we've got some early down linemen - Spears, Brent, Olshansky, Coleman

And then we can have others fresh for passing situations like Hatcher and Ratliff.

Looks like we want to be able to come at opponents in waves.

so far this training camp, we have been hearing as much good stuff about Brent as just about anyone, that is encouraging.

I predicted this right after the draft, I don't think he'll be a starter outright but I think we will see a good amount of him this year.

I just remember Phillips comparing him to Jamal Williams.

Say what you want about Phillips as a coach, but he does recognize talent fairly well and he would know if he was similar to Williams....

I think the kid is a player and was impressed with what he did last year and I focused on him every game.

Didn't he also say Brandon Williams was Ware-Like in camp a couple of years ago?

Some folks had a NT in their mocks before the draft. ;)

Hopefully with Brent, B. Williams, V. Butler & S. Lee's development it will allow us to be a much fresher team in the 4th quarter.

I have a good feeling about Josh. Quick, fast, strong, and low center of gravity players are a hand full for any offensive lineman. With a low center of gravity, good quickness he will be hard to double consistently. Plus his natural strength will render most guards and/or centers ineffective. Once he gets the nuances of the pro game down I can see him being a terror to game plan for.
