Why should he get yet another opportunity? He has been getting off light for being irresponsible all along. Being drunk didn't keep him from calling a cab the night Jerry Brown lost his life. This is just as much about decisions as it is the battle with alcohol. He had a golden parachute with Jones' benevolence that he has completely squandered. He has had treatment and it still has not changed his decision-making. Sorry, I am not going to feel sorry for him.
Honestly, going to prison may be the best thing for him recovering and having a productive life. Being handed second chances clearly does not help him all that much.
Yea nothing help us hiring managers and HR staff hire someone faster than prison sentences.
Have you ever driven while tired? Has anyone you known done this? Drive by any bar in the country and guess what you see.....lines of buses picking up all the patrons? Nah....Parking lots full of vehicles. Guess how the people are getting home? Go to a cowboys game and look at the parking lot. Same story. I am not and will not condone drinking and driving. I also wont pretend I know what its like to feel the responsibility of my actions resulting in a friends death. I still feel awful for the bird that swooped down and ended up in the grill of my car years ago.
No one is condoning Brent drinking. The problem some have with your post is the lack of human empathy it shows. No where in your posts does it come across to a reader as you caring about the well being of another human. Instead it sounds like disgust and vengeance is what you want to see. I may be misreading you and if so I apologize. But this is what it sounds like.
Treatment for a person with a problem like drugs and alcohol is not a one time cure all in most cases. Prison time has not proven to do more good than harm to a person with a disease or addiction or whatever label you prefer to give alcoholism.
Maybe Brent will never get it. Maybe this will be what the rest of his life becomes. Feeling sympathy for other peoples weakness and inability to make better decisions does not make us worse people. It makes us more human and more loving of each other. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world...Higher than North Korea. The prison population has exploded from about 300k to over 3M in less than 30 years. Vengeance has not helped any of us.
