Kind of strange. Doesn't appear he has failed another, and Gordon has never been known as a troublemaker in the lockerroom
The Patriots can be very cold at times. They kind of screwed over Demaryius Thomas earlier this year. Or maybe they are having a little heart for Gordon. Going on IR means Gordon can't play for the Pats this year, but if he is released then maybe he can get a chance to play somewhere if he ever gets healthy.
If we keep him on the IR, we have to pay him. If he is released, we don't. Save a million or two in cap space. Hope they release him after the trade deadline though... Makes him subject to the waiver wire.
Yeah, I can read otc as well... But no termination pay is involved... Unless his contract was guaranteed for injury, he's out... And if there are offsets, then the pats get relief they need... We are cap strapped this year so every million counts...Probably won't save that much by releasing him. He is playing on a 1 year contract with a base salary of $2,025,000. He has already been paid for 7 out of 17 weeks. They will have to reach an injury settlement with him before he can be released. They will likely get some savings, but it will be less than a $1 million.
So you want the Chiefs to bring in a guy the league leading Patriot secondary knows, who have practiced with him, and are very familiar with his routes and route running ability? All the while taking snaps / plays / passes away from the playmaking speed demons sammy watkins and tyreek hill and the TE travis kelce? If released, if I were Gordon, I’d fly to KC and offer Andy Reid $1m to let me play there
