Washington must be as pissed as Cuban is giddy right about now.
=====================
Ex-Mavericks forward Josh Howard out for season

12:39 PM CST on Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Associated Press

WASHINGTON – The Washington Wizards say newly acquired forward Josh Howard will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a ligament in his left knee.

Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld made the announcement in a statement Tuesday.

Howard injured his anterior cruciate ligament Monday night in the first quarter of Washington's win over the Chicago Bulls, only his fourth game with the Wizards since being acquired from Dallas in a seven-player trade on Feb. 13.

He started three games for Washington and scored 14.5 points a game to help the Wizards go 3-1 since the deal. He has averaged 15.3 points and 6.0 rebounds since his 2003-04 rookie season with the Mavericks.

No decision has been announced on whether Howard would have surgery.

I disagree.

The Wizards' season was over anyway, and I don't think they were planning on Howard being on the team next year.

Their best bet is to tank for the rest of the season and increase their odds in the lottery.

Even so, it must be frustrating to make that trade, then have your principal investment in it go down less than 2 weeks later.

Agreed. In fact, this saves the Wizards a lot of trouble as now the decision is very easy to just let the option lapse for next year and drop his contract off the cap.

It sucks very much for Howard, though. His chances of getting a big contract in the offseason were already very slim. He needed to impress down the stretch, and not only won't he do that, now he's an injury risk who will still be rehabbing into the middle of next season.

This may be the best thing that happened to the Wizards this year! :p:

It's typical Wizards luck (Tony Kornheiser calls it the "Curse of Les Boulez"), but I doubt they're all that pissed...

They're not gonna make the playoffs anyway, so at this point, losing more just helps their lottery chances... the biggest downer is they won't really get to evaluate whether or not they want to try to keep him beyond this season...

He had shown up pretty well in his short stint with the Wiz, and the team has been playing its best ball since the trades, winning three of four... I've gotten to watch all or parts of all four games, and they've been playing with spirit, even winning games in the 4th quarter (the old Wizards were infamous for laying down in the 4th)...

The Wizards just need to find a way to get John Wall and Howard going down helps that cause.

Maybe Dallas brings back Howard next year after he rehabs that knee? I doubt many teams will want to take a chance on him next year.

Id still take him over Marion.

From your keyboard to God's monitor, Catch...

:D

I'll tell you one thing, those recent trades are proving to be the best thing to ever happen to Andray Blatche... in the 5 games since the All-Star break, he's averaging nearly 36 minutes a game, 24.8 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game... those are all-star numbers...

It almost looks like he's FINALLY growing up... this will be one development I'll be watching closely as a Wizards fan for the rest of the season...

Al Thornton has also been quite good for the Wiz, averaging 31.5 minutes per game, 160. points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game... and James Singleton is probably impressing his new employers, perhaps even nailing down a spot on next year's roster, as he's averaged almost 7.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, all while playing just under 23 minutes a game... he looks to me like he could be a valuable role player in the right situation...

It's almost fun watching the Wizards again...

Its really cool to know that Wizard fans exist :D.

Yeah I always thought Blatche was a good prospect.

Have you watched the Mavs lately? Haywood may have put this Dallas team over the top. We can actually defend easy buckets now.

Deshawn Stevenson is playing quality D too.

I go WAAAAAY back with the Wiz...

I remember Gus Johnson shattering backboards... I remember Earl Monroe as a Bullet... I remember Wes Unseld as a rookie...

Been a Cowboys fan since 1960, an Orioles fan since 1965, and a Wizards fan since 1968... when I find a team, I stick with 'em, through good times and bad...

Yeah I always thought Blatche was a good prospect.

I was about to give up on him, thought he'd never grow up... I'm encouraged...

Nope, haven't seen the Mavs since the trade... my dream is to see Butler and Haywood playing against Jamison in the NBA Finals... then everybody will be asking why that threesome, along with Arenas, wasn't better than it was with the Wiz...

Deshawn Stevenson is playing quality D too.

That's the one thing he's always been able to do... he's a quality perimeter defender, just don't depend on him to knock down jump shots for you...

Please tell me that he's shaved-- or at least trimmed-- that Gawdawful, Richie Havens-wannabe beard... :D
