Everybody ready for this guy to get into the discussion at 28? Big freak athlete and actually has good game tape to back it up. 32 career starts with 8 INT's, 7 TFL, 17 pass breakups, and 2 FF's playing 3 different positions across the secondary for NC State.

6'1 220, 4.41 40, 20 bench reps, 37" vert, 11' broad (all ranked top 8 of all secondary players at the combine)

STRENGTHS: Looks the part with his height, length and build. Explodes out of a cannon on his tackling angles, accelerating in a flash. Speedy in pursuit to track down ballcarriers from behind. Aggressive hug-and-finish tackler in the open field. Creates stopping power with his downhill demeanor. Physical take-on skills to attack and tear through blocks. Evades blocks with bobs and weaves, finding the ballcarrier in the lane. Quick diagnose skills to sense what is about to happen, keeping his eyes on the prize. Steady at the catch point to find the ball and finish interceptions. Versatile experience across the secondary, including inside cornerback and both safety spots (32 career starts). Improved focus, work habits and maturity in 2016, showing better accountability.

STRENGTHS
Possesses prototypical combination of size and speed. Has acceleration and top-end speed to range all over the field. Plus athletic ability and reactive quickness. Has ability to disguise his coverage before sprinting back to centerfield. Has experience with both safety spots. Fluid in his movement and is an explosive leaper when challenging at the high-point. Has the ball skills to rake it or take it. Plays with eager eyes that stay glued to quarterback's intentions. Has the closing burst to challenge throws. Extremely aggressive. Bouncy feet can't wait to fire downhill and hit something. Accelerates through the collision. Does a good job of punching and playing off of blockers.
BOTTOM LINE
Jones is a height-weight-speed prospect to be sure, but he's not just a traits-based safety. Jones has the appetite for hitting that teams will want around the box and he has the speed and ball skills to range and help against vertical threats from a deep safety spot. The big area of concern will be Jones' ability to play with better discipline in coverage and as a tackler. He has the ability to become a good, long-time starter in the league.

His weaknesses from most accounts are being too aggressive and needing to reign in his play at times. He also tends to play a little too flat footed in off man coverage. He lets the WR get to/past him before flipping his hips and running with.

Rather him in round 3 than Peppers in 1.

I think he'll be drafted well before we pick in round 3, this is typically the time you start to see the media analysts catching on to how the NFL views these prospects and its no coincidence guys like Dane are starting to put him in their top 50. He's a similar type prospect to that Louisville Safety the Jets took in Round 1 a few years back, name is escaping me...

Oh well. Me being a proponent for taking a cb first, I doubt we go cb/safety so I'll just wait for a later round

Very deep DB draft, no way Josh Jones goes in first. And I'm a big Josh Jones fan.

I think the Sidney Jones injury could have a pretty big impact on the CB's taken. We could easily be looking at the 4th, 5th, or even 6th best CB available by the time 28 comes around. I'd prefer to wait and take advantage of the depth in this clas. The gap between 4th best CB and 12th best isn't all that big imo. 60 seems like the perfect spot to take a CB that can still start.

If he's there in the second I'll be ecstatic...I think he will be a solid step in starter next to jones at SS

But pick 28 is a little too rich for my blood

But again, the chances that we're taking a cb first is very high imo. Do you see us going cb then safety? That would be crazy to me.

What would be so crazy about picking 2 positions of need in the 1st and 2nd round? I assume because you think it would be crazy not to take a DE? Stick to your board and if that's how it plays out then so be it. DE is the obvious need no doubt, but if we pass at 28 do you really think any of the DE's available at 60 are going to make an impact? I think the chances of getting a CB better than Nolan Carol or a S better than Jeff Heath are a hell of a lot better than getting a DE that can make a difference, year 1 or after. Idk, maybe I'm just not as high on this pass rusher class as most. I only count like 7 or 8 guys I really like and seems they are either top 20 guys or guys that really belong between picks 35-50. This is the 1 year that a trade back scenario probably really is best.

Value wise it could add up, especially if Jones is there at 60. They aren't gonna force a DE pick
