You said fourth best in the division and that includes Rivera and (possibly)McDaniels. Rather than argue MMs resume why dont you tell me why those guys are so much better?
I think we can both agree I do not need to justify the Eagles head coach.
Ron Rivera is an example of what I talk about when I say you need to find a way to win when things do not go your way which McCarthy also never could. Cam Newton is not a great QB. He is probably around average and maybe below average depending on who you ask (certainly he is a far below average passer of the football). Yet despite having some bad injuries to Cam the past couple years, and despite not having great players on offense, and a defense with some very good players but some holes, he still used the talent that they had in order to win. In the NFL the healthiest team wins in the playoffs, but usually the great coaches can keep you in contention and he has, and when healthy a la 2015 great coaches can help make a run (as a note JG has NEVER been able to make that run despite the Cowboys generally being a fairly healthy team compared to the rest of the league).
Josh is a pretty easy one to make. I know people can point to Denver but really that was a situation with a lot of drama and with the QB situation being what it was you ended up effectively going 8-8 with a backup QB before the wheels really fell off next year. With such a limited amount of head-coaching experience I instead turn to his time as coordinator and the SB offenses and Josh fundamentally changed how the Patriots played. He coached the Patriots offense into relevancy because before him the offense had one job, manage the game so that the defense could win it, but when he takes over suddenly the offense is winning games and setting records. Josh has shown me more than McCarthy and that offense is a pretty easy showing of why. It didn't matter if it was 2 TEs or elite WRs, but Josh (along with Brady of course) was able to get the most of out of the talent that they had and THAT is the job of the coaching staff.
