Washington Commanders cornerback Josh Norman didn’t have a long reunion with his former head coach Ron Rivera. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garofalo, Norman has been released by the Commanders.

Norman, who made his debut in 2012, had several season of elite production when he was with the Carolina Panthers, and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2015. He signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Commanders before the 2016 season, but unfortunately those elite numbers didn’t follow him to Washington.

Over four seasons with the Commanders he intercepted seven passes and forced eight fumbles, well off the pace of even just his final season with the Panthers, during which he’d intercepted four passes and returned two for touchdowns. He also had a habit of getting lost in coverage and rode the bench in the late portion of the 2019 season.

He ain't who he used to be. Still good but not at the price he will want.

if we lose Jones I say sign him to a 2-3 year deal

Why? I could see a one year deal while they get a young guy up to speed, but there is no point in a multiyear deal. He will be 33 this season.

I've never thought Norman was anywhere near as good as the hype around him. He was decent, but somehow was thought of as a top knotch guy. I never saw it. He also would be highly criticized here as he isn't a guy who gets turnovers. People always complained about Terence Newman's lack of interceptions when he averaged just over 3.5 INTs per season in Dallas(He was lauded for his time in Cincy and Minny when he averaged far fewer interceptions per year). Josh Norman averages 1.75 interceptions per season.

He is the heir to the "Peanut Punch." He got Zeke with it.

when I actually watched other teams play he was very good the year before he got the widespread recognition. I wanted him to come here when he was picked up by the skins. I'm not saying break the bank for him and I haven't watched him much in washington, but obviously don't break the bank if you sign him. He looks to have those "killer football" coverage instincts when he's around the ball, something we only see with Jordan Lewis and occasionally Jeff Heath on this team.
