McCarthy sees the trajectory of Thomas, and all that fuels it.
"I thought he made a big jump last year," he said of the 23-year-old who climbed from the ranks of the practice squad not so long ago to potentially being a full-time starter in 2024. "He's been dynamic on special teams and what you want, particularly this time of year, is to see young players in a different light. And Juanyeh just has so much personality. He's such a bright light.

We all seen his improvement. One of the good things to look for this season.

I got to attend one of the training camps last year as part of my scouting internship. I was given on-field access by the team.

I'm a DB guy so I gravitate towards the DB workouts. The Safeties and Linebackers were grouped together for several drills. The two players who stood out to me were DeMarvion Overshown and Juanyeh Thomas. Special athleticism and very instinctive players. Their movement skills separated them from their peers.

A friend of mine from HS is a scout for the Cowboys. I used to get on the sidelines when they had camp in Texas. To bad they went back to Oxnard. Those were fun days

Just one of the reasons Kearse isn't a Cowboy any more.
Agreed. I think Thomas will be a VERY good player in this defense with how Zimmer generally has his Safeties only covering half of the deep zones.

As for Kearse....the main reason is he's almost unplayable at this point due to age/injuries. He has lost the mobility and range which once made him effective at his size.

I could see him getting a legitimate number of snaps this year. Zimmer historically has had his safeties split the field in half. Thomas and Hooker are the two guys on the roster who project to do that the best as Bell/Wilson are more of the DQ hybrid S/LB types who you can move around and get them close to the LOS.

It'll be interesting to watch in camp this year how Zim handles the Safeties. He has different guys with different tools to utilize.

What little I saw of him on PS TV...remarking instinct for the ball and sealing the edge ...even if he didn;t get the tackle...he was always at or near the play. Often at the sideline closing off the edge.

If he can be healthy, he and Parson should make a good team. Just need a middle clogger.

its time to put all that upside and ability to the test. Football isn't a feel good sport. Its a results based business. We gotta see that ability on the field for it to matter. I like how he has improved, but its now or never for him. Maybe thats unfair, but its the nature of the beast. All the good happy feelings and promise in the world is meaningless without works on gameday. Just win ball games,THEN we can circle back and see how Juanyeh helped us. Until then, its just another puff article we see every off season.

So another player with "potential".

That and $6 will get you a cup of coffee.

Seen so many of these types of guys come and go.

If he plays up to his potential, I'll give him all the props. But I've run out of hope for "potentially" great players, do it or get off the pot, as they say....

every offseason. These Pet Cats and media darlings come and go every offseason. Some last 2-3 years before they finally vanish like a vapor. I do think Juanyeh has a chance to do something. But I aint holding my breath.

If thomas, bell, and Wilson ball out during camp, could hooker be a surprise cut?
