I decided to try one of the mock drafts on Fanspeak and it really makes you think about the different players and positions and who might be available the next round. I got caught in a crunch on QBs because I waited until the 4th round. Maybe should have taken Dak Prescott in the 3rd round instead of Derrick Henry. The 3rd round was difficult because I was looking at Derrick Henry, Chris Jones, and Dak Prescott. I know that I took 2 RBs but could not help myself with Kenyan Drake still there in the 6th. Cut Dunbar and go with McFadden, Morris, Henry, and Drake.

4 - Jalen Ramsey - CB - Florida St
34 - Kevin Dodd - DE - Clemson
67 - Derrick Henry - RB - Alabama
101 - Christian Hackenberg - QB - Penn St
135 - Javon Hargrave - DT - South Carolina St
189 - Mike Thomas - WR - Southern Mississippi
212 - Alex McCalister - DE - Florida
216 - Kenyan Drake - RB - Alabama
217 - Cassanova McKinzy - LB - Auburn

It's Fanspeak, but I really think almost all of those selection are a round late. Dodd will go late first. Henry will go in the second. Hackenberg in the third etc...

A huge bag of ehhh.

Great analysis. Have you done any research on these players?

135 - Javon Hargrave - Listed at #88 in draft prospects by CBS, #91 on Drafttek, #97 on NFL Draft Scout. He is a 6'1" 309 LB DT that ran a 4.93 forty with a 34 1/2 vertical, 9'1" broad jump. His last 2 years of college he had 46 tackles for loss and 29.5 sacks from a DT position. He was the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. He is projected to go in the 3rd Round by CBS Sports so to get him with one of the last picks in the 4th round is good value at a need position (DLine).

189 - Mike Thomas - The guy is 6'1" and 200 lbs. His senior year he had 71 catches for 1391 yds with a 19.6 yards per catch and 14 TDs. He had 9 catches for 190 yds and 2 TDs in their bowl game against Washington. Most publications and websites have him projected to go in the 5th or 6th round so to get him in the middle of the 6th represents good value.

216 - Kenyan Drake - Projected to go anywhere from the 3rd to the 5th round. Got him at the end of the 6th. Not bad value. Not a need but I think he has a lot of potential but was underutilized at Alabama. I would to have him fill the Lance Dunbar role.

McCalister and, McKinzy are blah but then again the pickings were slim when you get to the end of the 6th and there is only so much you know about those players.

Hargrave is a high-motor guy who played against lower competition. I think he's one of those players that draftniks like the idea of more than actually grading the player.

Thomas was hot and cold for me. The cold stood out more.

Drake didn't deserve the "ehh" comment. If nothing else, he's a return guy.

McCalister is a flake and we need to avoid those type of players like the plague.

McKinzy is, as I said, ehhh.

Look at Dallascowboys.com and see who they listed yesterday at 4:27 CT as one of the 5 LBs that might fit into the Cowboys' draft day needs. I'll save you the time. This article was posted after my thread was started.

5. Cassanova McKinzy, Auburn –Other than having a great name, he could be a good late-round addition. He lives in the backfield, recording 29 tackles for loss in the last three years, along with five sacks last season for the Tigers. He’s got good size at 248 pounds and could play even heavier, to match his 6-1 frame. He can play multiple positions, which is how he can make the team from being a late-round pick.

I'd actually be surprised to see Hackenberg make it out of the second round. The fact that QBs are likely going 1 and 2 probably pushes the rest of the QBs up the board.

He sounds exactly like the last 3 LB's we drafted. Versatile enough to play all 3 spots, not good enough to make an impact at any of them.

It's the end of the 6th round (almost a 7th round pick). What are you expecting to get at that point? You very rarely find impact players at that point in the draft. Anthony Hitchens and Damien Wilson were 4th Round picks so you should expect more from them than a player selected at the very end of the 6th. Give me the name of a LBer that we can get at that point in the draft that you feel confident will be an impact player. Heck, just give me the name of any player we could pick with the 217th that will be an impact player.

My suggestion is not to take more of the same that we already have on the roster. I don't expect the 217th pick to have an impact. I just don't want to add a guy at 217 who will back up similar players who are already not making an impact.

Nice! I don't have a problem with any of the picks above the top five. I don't know too much about the lower picks except for Drake, who would be a steal if we got him that late in the draft.
