He wants his contract reworked. If this goes on long enough, Atlanta might be interested in a trade. They have stated that they are not reworking his contract. Might Dallas be interested?

Doubt Stephen is eager on giving a 29 year old receiver a huge contract.

I don't mind the guys on ELCs wanting to get paid, but JJ is in year 3 of his 5 year deal. Assuming he wants more than some his 34.4 million remaining to be guaranteed.

Wonder if their fans are bad mouthing him as a selfish cancerous teammates like many did Dez for a similar situation, although JJ still has TWO YEARS remaining.

I can certainly sympathize with someone who's seeing other, lesser even, players getting more money than me.

But the man signed a contract that at the time was fantastic, surely he knew that other players would eventually get bigger contracts than he did, that's just the way the salary structure works. TV contracts get bigger and some team overpays somebody, and that "sets the bar". If you don't like that, then sign 2-3 year deals.

Julio could have gotten hurt, not gotten better, been suspended or gotten worse; the team took that chance and paid him. Now that it all worked out for the good for Julio he wants to go back in time and re-do his contract.

Tough dude, tell you what, I'll play out your deal for half what you're going to get.

And be set for life at the end of the deal...

Drafting Calvin Ridley may have spurred this to some degree

When the previous poster compared his situation to Dez's and how the fans may respond the first thing I thought was "Well Julio has been head & shoulders above Dez."

But looking at Julio's numbers the last couple of years... They're good, but he pales in comparison to Antonio Brown. Brown is the far more productive player.

Julio has put up better numbers than Dez the last couple of seasons but he hasn't been dominate.

Bottom line, if I'm the Falcons I'm not renegotiating his contract either.

Julio has had the injury bug. He's played through a lot. When healthy, Julio is head and shoulders better than Dez and every bit as good as Antonio Brown.

That may be 100% true.

But injuries aren't an excuse.

That may be harsh, but these guys get paid the same injured or not and if he's going to have these nagging injuries holding back his production... Then tough. LOL!

I doubt you were really wondering - just wanted to bring Dez into it - but wonder no more.

Julio staying home

Julio, you have 3 years left on your contract. Unhappy? Fire your agent but don't take it out on your team.

I think that's it. If you look at his contract, I am pretty sure he's been paid everything that was guaranteed. Now he's going to have to actually earn the rest.

He has 3 years left. The Falcons should laugh at him, tell him to get more than 3 TDs this season, and fine him the max until he comes in.

Agreed. Julio doesn't have much of a case. He was grossly overpaid last year. I don't see Authur Blank caving.

I sure hope he doesn't. Not that I care one iota about the Falcons, because I don't. I just don't want that kind of precedent to be set.

It's clear what he is doing. He wants a ton more up front money in case he's not good enough to be on the team for all 3 remaining seasons. Similar to what happened to Dez, cut with 25M left in the contract after a less than stellar year.

BTW does anyone know what happens if he holds out? Does he still get paid? What are the fines? What actually happens?

I care about the Falcons b/c they play the Cowboys this year. It would be great to face them without Julio.

Nonsense. I know it’s not reality but in an ideal world I’d like every team to be at full strength and healthy. I don’t want any “gimme’s”. If we’re not good enough to beat teams at full strength then so be it. If we play GB in the playoffs, I want a 100% Aaron Rodgers. If we play the Patsies in the Super Bowl, I want a fully healthy Brady and Gronk. When we play Atlanta, I hope Julio is out there and we shut him down.

Agreed to a point. Games are more fun to watch when the better players play. I just want a W and not having Julio improves those odds for us. I'm just thankful we won't have to face Adrian Claiborne again.

Yeah, I know what you mean but I’d still rather take a L and play the best then get “lucky” with injuries and have to listen to excuses. I know it’s not a popular view and it’s unrealistic because every team has injuries but that’s why I said in an ideal world.

As you mentioned, another reason is because I enjoy watching top talent play, no matter what team they’re on.
