While I am in the boat with those who found this draft did not bring in the talent to challenge those who needed to be challenged, I think our real draft will come with June 1st cuts. Their have been hints of several high profile players getting cut that would push if not replace the weaker starters on the current roster.

Hey, its a little bit of sugar-coating for those of us who came away from this weekend disappointed.

First, June 1st isn't what it used to be. Not sure that will change this year.

Secondly, no, a day in which we could potentially snag a few over-the-hill players deemed no longer important to their prior clubs is in no shape or form "our draft."

Not trying to be crude, but I don't see any sort of consolation prize in June 1st cuts.

(Edit: Adam clarified my first point).

Really, is there a "last cut" day this year at all? If so, and they just moved the date, that is what I was referring to.

This team is not in rebuilding mode. We don't need anymore projects to groom. We need established vets who know their way around. That is generally what you find on June 1st, of those worth signing. I am not saying our savior will be had through cuts, but DB, WR and ILB help can be found there.

But, if there is no June 1st type cut day this year for some reason, this is all pointless. I do think we will address some things in FA a little more though.

Right now, '09 is the last scheduled season with a salary cap.

Any players released since the end of last season have all of their remaining bonus money count immediately on the '09 cap.

If we cut any new players, all of their signing bonus will hit this year.

June 2 (not June 1) used to be a day for cuts because after that date, the future bonus prorations didn't accelerate into the current year's salary cap.

Because this is considered the final capped year, nothing changes on after June 1. No matter when you cut a player this year, all of his future bonus prorations accelerate into this year's cap. So it doesn't matter when you cut a player, it's treated the same way. Teams could make their "cap cuts" today, tomorrow or any other day between now and the start of the regular season.
