Question (submitted by West TX Bengal Fan):
Dear NFLPA Staff:
I was wondering if you could give me an answer to this question:
Since a player waived or released after June 1 can have his remaining, non-amortized portion of prior paid bonus money split into the following two seasons with respect to the prior team's salary cap management, can a former team trading a player after June 1 manage this type of prior paid bonus money on its cap the same way? Or does the team trading the player have to take that cap hit immediately?
Answer (from Mark Levin, NFLPA Director of Salary Cap & Agent Administration):
The June 1 rule works for trades as well.
We could get rid of Roy and take minimal cap hits for the next 2 years... This also could mean our search for a #2 WR isn't over yet!
