June 21st 1963

Link is confusing. Bob Hayes set the world record at 10.06 seconds on October 15, 1964. Ussain Bolt holds the current record of 9.58 seconds.

I don't know what race/record it's referring to, and if he did run it, it wasn't official.

Edit: It appears that was the 100 yard dash, which is no longer run in most places.

the 100 meter was not used in High School or college until the 80's I believe.

I think Bob later ran a faster time just under 10.0 for the 100 meter. And his relay leg in the olympics was OUT of this world.

The olympic relay race is still a legendary race in the track world. One of the most stirring come-from-behind final legs ever.
