Former NFL linebacker Junior Seau, who was arrested early this morning on domestic violence charges, is reportedly hospitalized after driving his SUV off a cliff.

TMZ is reporting that Seau drove his SUV off a cliff in Carlsbad, California, this morning, just hours after he was released from the Vista Detention Facility. He survived the crash but was injured and transported to a local hospital.

Why you could wonder if head injuries was a problem, possibility of steriod use in the past could also be a problem. OTOH, arrested for spousal abuse (whether it's been a continuing problem or a first timer) might be enough for some who have been adored their whole life. Sounds like he's not enjoyed retirement after football. Anyway, sorry to hear about the accident (**** was an accident) but sure sounds more like attempted suicide.

Many of us think we'd enjoy the good life if we could play well enough to get a bunch of good years on an NFL team. But it's a very tough, physical & violent gain when you are only as good as your recent game/season. And when retirement comes, what do you do then if you didn't make the big bucks. These guys usually retire rather young in comparison with rest of the population and all of a sudden they don't have the financial resources to live as they once able too. Now don't know if that's a factor, but hope some of these young guys handle their money really carefully while they making it. Unfortunately, most probably take it for granted and are out of football due to injuries or lack of talent much earlier then they had hoped.

The car of Junior Seau went off a cliff and landed close to the beach in Carlsbad, Calif., early Monday morning after the former All-Pro linebacker was arrested.

Seau was arrested in Oceanside, Calif., on suspicion of domestic violence, the watch commander there confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility early Monday morning and posted bail after 3 a.m. local time.

Carlsbad police later responded to a 911 call of a single vehicle off the road and dispatched police and fire personnel. Seau's Cadillac SUV was found on the beach 30 feet below the roadside.

Seau, 41, was the only person in the vehicle and was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. Police Lt. Paul Mendez says Seau was conscious and and remains hospitalized with minor injuries.

I don't get pro athletes. When the tough gets going..the tough drive off a cliff? Really?

Learn to deal w/ life better. Sorry but I don't have any sympathy atm.

Maybe next week.

As someone pointed out, he could be another victim of brain damage from the hits. Personality change, suicide, poor impulse control, prone to violence, etc.

Well . . . at least he was driving an off road vehicle.

An Escalade is about as far from an off road vehicle as you can get.

Sounds like he needed a hang glider anyways.

Or a Segway.

Seau drives off cliff, hospitalized with injuries

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Former NFL star linebacker Junior Seau drove off a cliff and was hospitalized with minor injuries Monday, less than nine hours after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

The 12-time Pro Bowler's white Cadillac SUV was found on the beach about 100 feet below the roadside, said Carlsbad police Lt. Kelly Cain. Cain said it wasn't a sheer cliff, but was a significant, rough slope. Seau was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital in San Diego.

Seau's 25-year-old live-in girlfriend told authorities that Seau assaulted her during an argument Sunday night at his Oceanside home, according to Oceanside police. She appeared to have minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

I drove right past the site and car this morning not knowing who the dumb*** was that drove off the cliff.
