Look, I get it. This was a depressing week. We can all agree that What makes it worse is that what happened was totally predictable and likely avoidable. Proper planning would have made this a speed bump, and not a catastrophic injury event.

WTBS, some good things have happened during the 2022 training camp.

Sam Williams is going to be a very good Edge rusher. Add that to the scheme that DQ runs, and he has the chance to have a crazy good rookie season.

Daron Bland was a helluva find. So much so that I’d cut bait and send “Boss Man Phat” on his way to the recording studio.

Jake Ferguson could be our TE of the future. There’s no way I would sign a long term deal with Dalton Shultz. He is athletic, and has a high ceiling. I think his YAC will give us something we haven’t had at TE since JW was a young stud.

Kavonte Turpin gives us a true returner. The NFL has already been put on notice. Every time he touches the ball he has a chance to take it to the house.

Finally, I believe Dak has got better. I’ve always been in the middle when it comes to Dak so I’m not saying this with an agenda. He just looks better, and this might be the year where we need him to be.

What are your positives from this years camp and preseason? Let’s keep this from being a debate, there are plenty of threads you can do that on. Don’t argue with the opinions of others who think something is positive.

The cluenessness of our FO has finally become so obvious that it's even discussed openly in the media now. Slowly but steadily less and less people fall for the Joneses bull crap.

That's a positive, isn't it?

KJ isnt gogi to be cut..maybe next year hes onte bubble but not this season.,

Yes Turpin has return skills however dont underestimate what he brings as slot WR..IMO he is getting more snaps there then you think,

like over Tolbert, Houston, semi or brown. Not every down guy but i can see him being bigger contributor on offense then anyone realizes. Also perfect timing.

I can imagine dak with Lamb, Pollard, zeke, and Turpin all on the field at the same time. i had day dream where Lamb, pollard and Turpin go out wide in one of those bunches and zeke comes in motion to that side and whoever is the target zeke comes up and Wam blocks the first defender in, giving one of those fast guys a shot at huge play,, all sort of variations of those guy wouild scare soem defenses.

The team looks tight, one could see the camaraderie during last nights game.

DEFENSE.
Even with all the back ups last night against Seattle 1st and 2nd teams they looked pretty dang good.
I think Pete Carroll was really trying to win that game, but our players hung in there.

As bad as the OL looked at times, and the overall offense looking blah (all back ups). They still moved the ball at times. Helped by the defense as well for field position. Something we have not had consistency in for what seems like 20 years.
Starting outside our own 20 will be huge. Especially until the OL gets in order, and all the WR group is healthy.

Thanks for the balanced perspective.
I am still bummed by the LT situation however

I could make this a really long post, but I’ll just throw out the first few guys that come to mind that I really like.

Positives:

Jake Ferguson - Has looked fantastic and is going to help from game 1. Some of the best hands on the team. Made a lot of contested catches at Wisconsin (was their leading receiver), and is picking up right where he left off in college. His YAC and blocking are better than I expected. I wanted Dallas to draft him but he’s even better than I thought. Home run pick IMO.

Sam Williams - Will help in a rotation right away. Should get better week to week. Along with Fowler will provide plenty of juice off the Right edge. Can also play some 3T in 3rd and long situations. He’s stronger than I thought.

Mukuamu - Never expected this kind of improvement from this guy. He has looked much better this season. He has turned into a guy that really could help if called upon. Apparently, a bit of a ball hawk. Who knew?

Bland - One of the biggest surprises in a few years, for me. I knew he had fantastic measurables, but had no idea the guy was going to show the kind of DB instincts and football IQ that he has. I said it in another thread, and I’ll say it again here: Had Bland been our first round pick and then played like this, I would be very happy with the choice and would feel like it was a pick well spent. If he’s playing like this now, he is going to be good very soon. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Bland is the first guy up after Diggs/Brown/Lewis. In fact, I almost expect it.

Bell - Has looked like he belonged from the May rookie mini-camp on. Big guy who moves like someone much smaller. If you hear scouts say “he’s an easy mover”, and kind of wonder what they mean… just look at Bell, because that is exactly what he is. He is smooth in coverage, especially for a safety, and is a load when he arrives. You can tell, he is just a good football player. To get both Bell and Bland in the same year is crazy good luck.

Tyler Smith - We’ve all heard about his aggression and strength, and boy does he have it. I won’t say too much because we all know he’s a good player. I will say that I hope they find a way to keep him at LG this season. If they can just find a LT, then Smith is going to be a mauler inside. He’ll really open up the run game, IMO.

Bohanna - I had no idea he was going to improve this much from his first year to his second. He looks like a different player. He is going to really help this season in the run game. I take my hat off to the guy because I was never a huge fan of his and I had doubts about him in year 2. He has done some nice work on improving his game.

Farniok - He actually looks like he can play and help a team at either Center or Guard. I already liked him but he has surprised me in how well he’s played in this camp.

Devin Harper - He definitely hasn’t been great or anything, but he has looked better than I expected and has a lot of future potential, IMO. He’s a fringe player but I’d rather keep him than Gifford if he’s as good on special teams. Harper has a lot of physical ability. With time and work, he might be able to turn into a good off-ball LB.

Others:

Gallimore
Hendershot
Juanyeh Thomas
Malik Davis
Jabril Cox
Simi Fehoko
Turpin

These guys deserve a write up too but it would just be too long.

My thoughts

We have done an incredible job on the defense. We continue to hit on Fa's, UDFA's and draft picks. The defense has a chance to be scary good and has me excited. I love the Ferguson pick and I hope he can replace Schultz next year (we will need the additional cap for Diggs). I think the WR's will be OK. I am very worried about the O-line, our depth is piss poor and we really miss managed this. Maher will be as good as Greg at a discount. Sucks Garibay didnt work out but it is what it is. Turpin will be absolutely amazing this year returning kicks and punts. I think we have a chance, but the O-line will have to get better as the season progresses for us to have a chance.

I don't ask people what their positives are on the team. I ask them what their thoughts are. Only the weak need to filter it to compliments.

Ridgeway has potential. He could beat out Bo next year for sure.
Haha, gracious in victory, I see.

I was neither a fan of Ridgeway or a guy that didn’t like the pick. I just figured I’d watch his camp and see. He’s got a little potential but just isn’t there yet, IMO.

Like you said, he might make a big jump next year too.

Here are my positives:
  • Will McClay is an outstanding scout and I do think our drafting the last several years has been better.
  • Jake Ferguson looks like excellent value as a 4th round pick.
  • Kevante Turpin is an absolute steal and has a chance to have immediate impact.
  • Having Dan Quinn back as DC is a huge plus. He’s the best DC we’ve had in decades.
  • The defense as a whole has the chance to be the best side of the ball for this team for the first time in decades.
  • Back to Turpin…having a weapon as a punt returner has real chance to improve field position…a problem for years.
  • May sound strange but the Tyron injury will probably force this organization to finally address LT. Remains to be seen what the answer is- hopefully it’s Tyler Smith. But we needed to move on from #77. I love the guy but it’s time to recognize he has become a bigger problem than asset.

As I mentioned several times last night, I have hopes for both Ball and Waletzko. There is something there to work with, but they both need at least a year on the roster, practicing, getting a bit of game time when they can. They are not ready to start or be big contributors.

There’s always someone who tries to hijack every thread. But just for you, I will note your thought. I will put it right on the end of a bloody and cracking hemorrhoid and think about it every time I sit down.

Like Williams, but "crazy good" rookie season I'm not seeing that one. Parsons had a crazy good rookie season.
