Deangelo Smith and Mike Mickens had a combined 26 total interceptions during their college career. The most of any cornerback tandem in the NCAA during that span.

To all the people that want some playmakers back in our secondary. We got them. Complete ball hawks.

And Victor Butler and Brandon Williams each were double-digit sackers (Brandon leading the Big 12). And Jason Williams had some freakish number of tackles for loss.

Dallas drafted some proven, productive playmakers on Sunday.

I did not read all the bios of all the drafted players, but I heard that they drafted a lot of Team Captains. Which of all those players drafted were Team Captains?

He also caused a whole lot of fumbles.

I think they combined for 44 sacks during their careers, both placed in the top 5 in sacks in the nation last yar

Quick perusal shows Hamlin and Butler as team captains. But the terms 'hard working', 'respected', 'team leader' and 'tough' were all over the picks.

I love the idea of taking two guys who were such a great duo in college.

I think this is gonna really help our secondary, (and in turn help our entire defense), become more of a cohesive unit.

We did not get any true college "superstars" ..... and I have to admit I was disappointed that we did not get a "name guy".

But what we did get was a bunch of hungry, smart, football playing dudes.

And that may just be what this team of underachieving primadonnas needed.

I am excited.

Don't forget that people like Tony Tolbert were 4th round picks.
As was the now departed Chris Canty, who despite his loss was totally worth a fourth rounder.

Leon Lett and Jay Ratliff were both seventh rounders.
Charles Haley was a fourth rounder by the Niners as well, played at a small school, William and Mary.

Its the first and second round where Dallas has blown it in the Jones era with pass rushers not named Demarcus Ware.

Shante Carver and Ebenezer Ekuban were first round busts, Kavika Pittman was a second round reach, Marcus Spears is on the fence.

I think Dallas drafted a stable worth of steady eddies and maybe got a Ratliff in there too.

The reason a lot of people, including the mediots, don't like our draft is simply because there isn't any glitz to it. That's just fine with me. We already have a lot of offensive weapons and several pass rushers. We needed guys that play with heart, blood, and guts. We also needed some additional athleticism and speed on defense, as well as future leaders. We got all that. Will these guys be great? Who knows. Just because you're drafted in the first or second round doesn't mean you will be a great player. The exact opposite goes for later round picks. There are hundreds of examples of players drafted in mid to later rounds being Pro Bowlers. Hell, Drew Pearson was an UDFA and that was when the draft was 12 rounds. We might or might not have drafted any future superstars, but I'll bet we drafted several guys that will be solid contributors. Sort of like the Steelers have done for years.

Well stated and very true. Under Jimmy J. it seemed like our later round pick we more ffective and productive. Hoping we have the same results.

I do like that Smith and Mickens were such ball hawks and made a lot of INT's. That is something to really get me excited about their potential. Hopefully they work hard and are able to translate that into being great pros for us.
