This is my first post in a while and I`m sure that many will disagree with some of my thoughts on the current Cowboy team. I have read many post about the running game , or lack of , that questions why Garrett has not run more. First , this team is not built to be a running team . I have seen countless post about the the NFL being a passing league . The current o-line is built for pass protection and speed . That is fine until they have to line up against several 330lb d-tackles and try to gain 2 yards that are needed for a first down or a touchdown. I`m certainly not saying that I miss L. Davis , but I think that the interior line needs some 325lb nasty , fast roadgraders. I`m an "old school" believer that the games are won in the trenches . The current line gets no push on running plays and that includes the tackles , Free and Smith. Sometimes you have to be able to line-up and play power football . This team lacks that element. The game Sunday would could have been totally different if a power running game was in place to run the clock down.
I have been more than impressed with Rob Ryan. I just hope Jerry opens the checkbook up and keeps him because I feel like A headcoaching offer may come sooner than later. He has taken a defense that put out very little effort last year , and totally turned them around.
As far as Romo in concerned , he is just like Farve , except that Farve didn`t have have the hoopla of being the QB for "America`s Team" or the media bashing him for everything on and off the field. The one glimmer of hope with Romo is that other QBs such as Elway was able to shake the "choke" label later in their career.
As strange of a year as this has been , at least this team has not shown any signs of quitting like they did last year. I give Garrett credit for the culture change and it seems like many of the players are buying in and starting to show some leadership. That is a big change from the last few years.

Up to right now, Dallas hasn't been able to dominate on any particular talent while in the Red Zone. There is nothing yet, to hang it's hat upon. This allows an opposing defense, and Dallas has faced some good ones in it's starts, to be more in an attacking zone rather than having to react to a really strong tendency first.

I'm also curious as to what role Dockery will have after his return to health and more time with the team.

the short yardage situation is nothing new. we struggled with it last year, when we had supposed road graders.

and if you put in road graders, then you end up in a lot of 3rd and long situations and need to pass...but wait...you are a road grader, not a passing team, so you struggle in passing situations....

it doesn't necessarily have to do with road graders.

I think there are several factors in play. one is mental. they don't think they can make those yards. and the coach is also agreeing with them, when he puts in Brent as FB , thinking a 300 lineman can open holes.....any more of a road grader than a 300 lb FB? yet we still failed.

the short yardage design has to be reviewed and redesigned by the coaches. too many times the opposing team is engaging the OL men and the rest of them are shooting the gaps hitting the RB in the back field.

the whole thing need reviewed, reworked and for the team to get out of that funk. once they do, they get over the mental hurdle and they will be fine....

sort of

IMO the roadgraders that we have had in the past , have really been bad . I think that it is possible to actually have big linemen that can pass protect and run block. Dallas really has failed in the scouting area in finding the good big men . Konz and DeCastro would be great in the draft next year if Dallas would invest the picks.

I see your point, but it's more than just size, as you pointed out. Just having big, road grating type players doesn't do you much if they aren't good. As much as size, you need strength and technique - two things many our "Youglies" need significantly more of. I agree that we need to continue to look for OL. I really like the Konz kid out of Wisconsin, and Brewster from OSU. But I also think that a year or two with Woiczik will do wonders for the guys we currently have. And I think Houck is a competent coach, but we can do better.
