Just a thought... Wade Wilson Suspension a Good Thing?

I was talking today with another Cowboys fan and he had a take on the Wade Wilson suspension I hadn't thought of. He thought it was good thing and will show up in Romo's performance this week.

His thinking was that when the suspension came down, everyone knew that our toughest challenge on the sked would be NE and that would be the game that Wade would be back for.

He thought that what he has done for the last 5 weeks was dissect the NE defense every which way possible. Basically eat, sleep and drink that defense.
I thought it was a bit odd but after thinking about it, it makes some sense that he could come in this week and give Romo an advantage that no other QB has had against them, which is a position coach who has totally absorbed an opponent for 5 solid weeks.

Hopefully we can be the team that "exposes" the NE Defense. Everyone asks if we were exposed. I think maybe we can very do it this week.

I have never heard of a QB coach making much of an impact.

But I will hope you are right.

That would be nice, but I doubt that Wade Wilson has had access to game tapes. The Cowboys couldn't provide them and New England wouldn't.

It's probably a good thing in that he hasn't actually been coaching Romo, which in all likelihood makes Tony a better QB.

I don't know, I don't see WW having a huge impact on Romo, but every little bit helps.

Cowboys know about WW before the suspension and probably knew the suspension was coming. Whose to say they didn't pass whatever tapes they have on NE to WW to study in much detail. Don't know how much an advantage that would provide but 5 weeks of intensive study focusing on only one team with specific questions to answer/note sure might help out our coaching staff and Romo.

Aikman gave a lot of credit to Norv Turner for his development. Norv was the OC, but was pretty much the QB coach as well. Troy also gave praise to Jack Riley when he was the QB coach.

I am not saying Wade is going to make much of an impact, but he won't hurt matters either. I am glad he is back. Every position needs a coach.

I don't know if he studied New England extensively. Was he allowed to hang out at Valley Ranch while suspended? If not, then he may not have had much access to any game tapes. Maybe he was sent some to study at home.

From what I've heard about his coaching abilities, I thought you were taking this in a different direction after seeing the title.

Yes-Wilson was missed b/c he IS the captain that steers the ship-IOW, it's absolutely recommended that every QB needs that "get on your tail" QB coach.

Maybe that's why Romo looked a bit lost against Buf-not having a QB coach he can communicate daily for the last month eventually took its toll?

Young and Montana give a lot credit to Holmgren for their development and Favre gives a ton of credit to Andy Reid.

Hmmm... maybe so. I'm not sure how much of an impact a QB coach can have on a particular game.

However, who am I to say he's wrong? He might have been dissecting the Pat's getting ready for this game. I'm sure he's been watching Romo some too and trying to see any flaws he can work out.

While the QB coach doesn't make the gameplans... I'm sure if he noticed anything on film about New England, he'd tell Phillips and Garrett who would then take it into account in making the gameplan.

Could be.

Garrett was QB coach last year for Miami and he certainly was prepared to be a coordinator... so perhaps QB coaches have more to do with the gameplan than we initially thought.

I think where this could be a real advantage for Tony is in the reading of the defense at the line. If there are some subtle tendencies the pats have displayed, and after constant immersion in Patriots defense for 5 weeks, he can help allot. Especially during in game adjustments when he sees what they are doing. Anyway, here's hoping.

I was thinking of this myself. Romo's mechanics, looked poor early against Buffalo. He was everywhere with the ball. I do believe that if nothing else, Wilson will get Romo back to the solid base with mechanics and maybe reign him in some on all the commercials and whatever else. You can spend a lot of time in the film room but if you can't recognize what it is that your not seeing, then it doesn't matter. I think in this way, Wilson can help Romo.

Maybe. I just think a QB coach can focus on one position while the OC has to focus on the entire offense. It is good to have position coaches that can concentrate on the flaws and strengths of their respective positions and provide more direct feed back. It is also why I think having Brad Johnson around is a good thing for still young Romo. An extra veteran voice that has been and seen things in the NFL. If Matt Moor was around, what would he be able to tell Romo?

to be honest with you...I betcha both teams have already had a scout assigned to do this....so this game will be about what football games are always about...the OL that does the best job will be the team that wins

Don't know. He's $100,000.00 less rich than he was 5 weeks ago.

:D

Besides, they tell me game tapes are different from TV video for coaching purposes.
