At about 10 minutes after 4 this AM, a young black man walks into my hotel and inquires about a room... he was on the short side, my height, but with a big ol' chest and arms... we negotiated a price (the boss lets me dicker down when it's late), and he hands me his credit card...

It was Ryan Moats, the RB the Iggles just cut today... he's on his way home to Texas, to wait to hear from his agent about an opportunity... I told him I recognized the name, and we chatted for a minute... heck of a nice guy, with a pretty wife...

Just to be real sure he wasn't some other Ryan Moats, I went and looked him up on NFL.com, and he was definitely the guy in that picture...

If we weren't set at RB, I wouldn't mind giving him a shot. I liked him in that draft.

That's exactly what I told him... I said if nothing else, he'd really help our special teams... he said that he was hoping to find a gig where he might get a chance to run the ball some, and I told him I understood where he was coming from...

He gave a Frisco (Texas) address, I guess that's where he's headed while he waits to hear from his agent... so when he agreed that the Boys probably wouldnt be interested, maybe I was reading my own agenda into it, but he sounded kinda wistful to me... so I told him that I was sure he was gonna land on his feet, and being a Cowboys fan, I'd be able to root for him with a clearer conscience now that he was out of Philthydelphia... :D

I really did... he seemed pleased that I recognized him, mentioned it to his wife... I suspect that he's feeling kinda down right now, so it would please me if I did a little something to lift his spirits...

It's the first time I've had a chance to talk to an NFL player since I met Don Perkins when he was broadcasting WAC basketball way back in 1971, and he came to El Paso to cover a UTEP-Arizona State game...

I have often wondered how down they can get after a release. I can only imagine.

Well, he was real pleasant with me, even before I recognized him... a very nice young man... looked more like weightlifter than a running back, LOL...

He won't stay unemployed long.......

I was afraid where this story was going at first. Turns out to be pretty cool. There are a couple of RB starved teams he should hear from.

You've really got a good sense of humor. :D

When I worked at Best Buy for a short time Chad Hutchinson and his wife came in to my department and bought a battery charger for their camera.

When I handed it to him he dropped it. Just kidding. He was a nice guy and knew I was a Cowboys fan after I recognized him and his wife (Hard Knocks). He extended his hand as if to say he was sorry, so we shook hands and I told him "good luck." His wife seemed pleased that I recognized him and was cordial.
