Just how is the pass rusher supposed to tackle the QB?

I could accept that better than what I'm seeing in todays NFL. 15 yard personal foul for barely touching a QB is just ridicules. Heck you may as get your money yardage worth and blast the QB out of his shoes the way things are now. 5 yards for incidental contact and 15 for flagrant contact

The big problem is that a QB will drop back and the defender will get his arms up to deflect the pass, then he'll barely contact the QB's helmet and the flag is thrown. Or in Ware's case, the QB can duck and even despite the fact Ware tried to pull back, he still just barely touched Ware.

It's not like Ware or many other defenders are being reckless, they are just trying to deflect the ball. Thus, it's easy to just barely touch the QB's helmet.

I agree and it is a joke to sit there and hear the league consider that a personal foul. I'm not asking for this to turn into the head hunter’s league but QB's are players and they should fall under the same rules that apply for all others. If a player comes in late and hits a QB then it should be a foul, if a player comes in and head slaps a QB that should be a foul or if you come in head lowered and hit the QB that as well should be a foul. Barely touching a QB and getting a 15 yarder I think it is a joke. Jack Lambert was right lets just put the QB in a dress and get it over with already.

I can see it now....

2007 Rules Change: QB in Pocket

No player shall hit a QB in the Pocket with any part of the player's body if the QB is standing upright.

2008 Rules Change: QB in Pocket

No player shall attempt to hit a QB in the Pocket with any part of the player's body...period.

2009 Rules Change: QB in Pocket

When a QB is in the pocket, the defense may only use 7 players, none of whom may cross the line of scrimmage.

2010 Rules Change: Cancelled...NFL out of business

I can see it now. Ref: Personal foul on #94 for thinking about hitting the QB. :laugh2:

Last year when the Commanders came to Texas Stadium, Glover was called for roughing the passer. He came in and Brunnell threw the ball and then ducked his head. When he ducked his head, it put him in position for Glovers helmet to contact Mark's helmet. There was nothing Glover could do about it, yet it wasn't vicous or violent.

I think the idea of a 5 yard incidental roughing and 15 yard flagrant roughing would be great. You are still protecting the QB within reason.

Is this just for helmet to helmet contact?? I wasn't sure, because I've seen flags for the defender hitting the QB with his arms. The reason I ask is because when John Henderson sacked Roethlisberger last night his forearm hit Ben pretty forcefully in the head.

Ben had ducked into it, but as joseephus said, Brunell ducked into a flag last year. There was no flag thrown last night. It's just the inconsistency of it that bugs me.
