Just how long is Ike out for?

There are a few precedents, though. Here’s the worst case scenario:

Seven weeks: Wouldn’t you know it. Kobe Bryant, at the ripe age of 21, fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand during the Lakers’ first exhibition game. Bryant had a protective cast on his right hand for seven weeks. I don’t think there’s much of a chance that Diogu is out for this long, as the injury isn’t on his shooting hand like it was for Kobe. And besides, Bryant wouldn’t even play through a broken fingernail.

And the best case scenario:

Barely any missed playing time: Eduardo Najera, at the ripe age of… 28, fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand during the Nuggets’ second to last regular season game this year. Though on his shooting hand, Najera only missed two games. Eduardo played 13 minutes between the 2nd and 3rd game in the first round against the Spurs. He didn’t, however, get any time in the fourth or fifth game. Question is: was it because of the Injury or did he fall out of the rotation?

The likely scenario:

Four weeks to six weeks:
With basketball players, all signs point to a recovery period of four to six weeks — maybe three if the thing heals just right. Jalen Rose fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand in the ‘03-’04 season, thanks to then-Warrior Cliff Robinson, and was out from February 8th to March 14th. When Brent Barry was a Supersonic, he fractured our now-favorite bone in his right hand, causing him to miss a little under six weeks of action. Scot Pollard broke his fourth metacarpal bone as a King, and although he was supposed to miss six weeks, he only missed about five. And finally, Bobby Jackson missed six weeks because of the aforementioned broken bone.

Basketball players with hand injuries are different from football players, imo.

If it's mostly healed, I'd wager TO could get out there and play. If a basketball player has a broken hand, he simply cant shoot.

I don't think it's fair to compare basketball players with football players.

Basketball players aren't consistently being knocked to the ground. Football players are.

And you need your hands to not only catch the ball but brace for a fall.

I'd rather TO just heals properly than to rush back and get injured more severely.

Look, if we can't win without him we're not the playoff-bound team many think we are.

Time for the other guys to step up.

I fully expect Owens to be back for the Eagles game. No way he'll let his injury sideline him for that one.

He'll stage yet another miraculous comeback in time to try to stick it to his former team. And if their woes in the secondary continue, he probably will.

Who starts in his absense and who will fill in as the 3rd WR? Crayton and Hurd?

It is a small bone. Once it is stabilized (i.e., after surgery) he can play whenever he feels like he can handle the pain.

Honestly, with as bad as Tennessee looks, I think the Cowboys can afford to give Owens that extra week to heal.

The Titans are arguably the league's worst team and the Cowboys should be able to win that game even without Owens.

Well 4-6 weeks is ********.

especially since it is 2-4. 4 being the max.
I am fairly certain he could play against tennessee if he had to.

A player's hand does get a lot more roughed up in football than basketball, but you can also get away with wearing a cast. I think that injury is worse for a basketball player.

Basketball players need there hands to shoot, and dribble, and can not get away with haivng splints or casts on it. THis is football, where you play hurt, i see TO coming back for October 8. WE have a two byes essentially, and TO will not miss playing the eagles because of a hand issue.

I wonder who would win an Oakland-Tennessee matchup?

I ran A computer simulation on it. Tennessee left the field at the end of regulation tied 3-3. 4 plays later Oakland went for it on 4th and goal. brooks overthrew a wide open Moss. Game ended 3-3

Yep.

We don't need him against the Titans.
