The hilarious thing about the "family vacation" excuse is that all of Valley Ranch will break in a few weeks and get 4-6 weeks off from mid-June to the start of training camp in July for vacations. That's when all the players and coaches and trainers take their vacations.
Exactly... Or just schedule it during the draft. Or two months after the season. Or any other time you *know* there won't be a conflict. There are plenty of those times.

He just doesn't want to be a part of the team .... or reads the writing on the wall and knows he's not going to be a part of it after this year anyway, so he's just going to mail it in.

or it could be that he scheduled a vacation before the OTA's and then when OTAs were announced he got permission to miss them from the coaching staff.

NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH conspiracy theories are much more believable

I'm glad Roy did not show up... this can only HELP the Boys! OTAs will not make Roy cover better but the will allow the coaches to install packages that do not include him!

No matter what Roy does in the offseason it will not help him v. K2 week 1!

Also an FYI OTA's were scheduled the beggining of June last year Not mid may, maybe just maybe Roy thought they were going to be about the same time when scheduling his vacation

This is Roy's 7th offseason. He knows full well that late May and early June are the times when OTAs and minicamps are held. These aren't scheduled randomly or out of the blue. It's not like they schedule OTA's in February one year and then early May the next and mid-July the next. A lot of NFL teams are holding OTAs this week. This could have been easily planned around. It's only a 3-4 week window out of a 6 month offseason he has to schedule around.

Besides, something tells me these OTA's dates were finalized before Roy's vacation plans were.

I still think there's a big enough gap in his schedule that it could have been scheduled when there was no chance of the team having workouts.

Those are clearly marked on the calender.

They know in May these workout will take place be in May 10th or May 20th or the week after the bottom line is they know in May these workout session will be taking place. Roy is not a rookie he as been around long enough to know that teams around the NFL this time of year start the OTA including the Cowboys. Dallas is not the only team holding them most others are as well.

Roy purposely decided he wanted to go on vacation knowing he would OTA's and/or mini-camps, for whatever reason.

They were almost 2 weeks earlier this year than last thats a pretty big gap

But you are right conspiracies are much easier to believe

According to the writer who broke the story it was scheduled before the OTA was scheduled, maybe the calendar was late

"Conspiracy"

Please.

The team has about six weeks of downtime coming.

No reason it couldn't have been scheduled then - like everyone else's.

and if roy is not a rookie why are 2 days in shorts watching the real rookies get time in so counterproductive other than the bashers need it to be?

bigd - tagging you in. i'm going on a vacation myself.

Maybe the 'scheduling' was still bad?

Again, there's about six weeks of downtime coming up - schedule it then like everyone else does.

The team disappointments should be getting every bit of work in that they can.

For every 'basher' there's two 'excuse-makers'.......

Romo, TO, Newman, Barber, Ware and the other star players managed to be here why should I expect any less of Roy? Again I'm not a basher because I'm saying Roy is wrong in this you take your damn vacation in June when every player out there knows they will have some down time before training camp starts up.

This is not anything new so don't tell me that my family could only take this time non-sense. You are the one making that excuses with nothing to back it up other than well maybe that it the case.

He is a member of this team as such he needs to be here doing his job like the rest of them. NO EXCUSES. This team has had enough excuses over the years it is time from them to grow up and get the damn job done!!! Jerry has done his part now it is time for these players to do their part.

Two weeks is a "pretty big gap" to plan around when you have February through late July off?

Again, this isn't rocket science. If I'm a college professor, I know not to book my vacation around the time of final exams. I might not know the exact dates of the final exams, but I should know the vicinity.

I cannot believe-oh wait, yes I can ;) -that you guys are raising such a stink about Roy missing a few OTAs! The hatred for #31 oops, #38 knows no bounds, does it? If this were training camp, shoot, mini-camp, I could understand but thread after thread, post after post, all bashing Roy is outrageous at this point in the OFF-SEASON! Anyone out there upset because Hamlin isn't attending? Man, has Roy fallen off with some of the SUPPOSED Cowboys' faithful (and this is after a Pro Bowl season)! It'll be interesting to see how you guys would react if Williams has a great season in '08. I'm sure the man-crushes you had on him when he first donned the Star would be re-ignited BIG TIME! If this forum is indicative of how the public views Roy no wonder he wants to give fans the cold shoulder...you can only beat a dog for so long before it bites you back!
