dallascowboys.com, and Wade stated several times that on defense we set a bad tone and "just didn't get after them". In fact, Wade said we just didn't get after them (or similar words) several times during the PC.
And then he said we have to get after them more - i.e., the QBs more.
From listening to the press conference, I got the feeling that Wade didn't get involved in telling B Stewart what "type" of pressure he was looking for vs. the Broncos - at least from his first unit.
I'd guess that Wade and Stewart discussed how much they wanted to play the starters, certain players, etc., but I really felt that Wade basically didn't get involved in telling Stewart if he wanted the defense to blitz every now and then, to jam the CBs and play aggressively, etc. (Wade also mentioned that the Secondary didn't cover well.)
The only reason I bring this up is that I thought it kind of strange that even though it's a pre-season game, that Wade wouldn't have communicated with Stewart if he wanted the 1st team defense to show more pressure (or not), if he wanted to do more to set the tempo with the defensive play, etc. I mean, otherwise Wade shouldn't be THAT disappointed with the results. Of course any pro starting QB is going to put up a high percentage passing completion rate if he can stand behind the pocket unharrassed.
Did anyone else come away with this after listening to the PC? (That Wade didnt' really communicate how much pressure, etc. he wanted to apply?)
I think that vs. the Texans that Wade will definitely be applying more pressure and not such a plain vanilla defense - at least that's what I gleened listening "between the lines". And even in pre-season, he doesn't want the defense not to be overly vanillia (i.e., CBs playing way off the WRs with no pass rush).
