After doing a lot of research between Nikon.Canon and Olympus DSLR cameras in the same class I decided on a Olympus E-420. More features than the others and smaller and lighter to boot. I'm so happy. :) Think I'm going to get in to photography part time, already have two young ladies at work that want a set of photos done.

My business cards will be here next week. :)

E-420 features.

Dust reduction: Life moves too fast to spend time worrying about dust ruining your images. Olympus' proven Dust Reduction System produces spot-free photos with the exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter

Digital image stabilization: The E-420's Digital Image Stabilization, activated as a Scene Select Mode, allows high ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds so you can freeze the action to capture sharp, blur-free images even if you or your subject is moving

2.7" Hypercrystal II LCD: HyperCrystal II Technology delivers twice the contrast and better viewing in extreme lighting conditions, a broader range of color detail and a wider angle of view on the LCD so you and your friends can see it up to 176 degrees off-center

10 Megapixel live MOS: Get amazingly detailed, colorful and clear images with the 10-megapixel Live-MOS image sensor. This high-resolution sensor captures all the detail needed to make large prints, or even crop without losing detail

Perfect shot preview: Perfect Shot Preview enables you to view and select your favorite effect right on the LCD and see how the image will look before you even capture it, so you know that what you see is what you get

Wireless flash: If you decide to venture into the arena of advanced lighting, the E-420 is ready to meet the challenge. The E-420 is compatible with the Olympus FL-50R and FL-36R wireless electronic flashes that are designed exclusively for digital photography

On-Screen Autofocus with Live View works as seamlessly as a point-and-shoot to display subjects in focus on the LCD the instant the shutter is pressed half way

Face Detection Technology targets and locks on up to eight faces to ensure accurate focus for crystal clear, amazing portraits

Shadow Adjustment Technology captures detail in the bright areas of a frame and opens up detail in the shadows that other cameras would render too dark or underexposed

The E-420 measures 5.1 inches by 3.6 inches by 2.1 inches and it's a featherweight 13.4 ounces - making it the world's smallest digital SLR

The Digital Image Stabilization Scene Select Mode allows high ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds so you can freeze the action to capture sharp, blur-free images even if you or your subject is moving

The E- 420's TruePic III processor gives you better color and quality through true-to-life skin tones, brilliant blue skies, precise color transitions, more detail and less image noise

Expand your creative reach with wireless flash compatibility. The E-420 is compatible with the Olympus FL-50R and FL-36R wireless electronic flashes that are designed exclusively for digital photography

With 18 easy to use Scene Select Modes you can simply select the right mode for your shot; the E-420 takes care of the rest. The 18 modes cover practically every common shooting scenario including Portrait, Fireworks, Sports, Landscape, Sunset and many more

As soon as you grab the E-420, you'll notice how naturally it fits in your hand. The improved grip is ergonomically designed for superior comfort. The E-420's body is lightweight and stylish so it's a pleasure to carry and use for hours at a time

Accepting CompactFlash Type I & II, Microdrives and xD-Picture Cards, the E-420 provides a choice of data storage options for enhanced flexibility and it is possible to transfer image files from one card to the other right inside the camera

Perfect Shot Preview enables you to view and select your favorite effect right on the LCD and see how the image will look before you even capture it
Fire of a burst of shots at 3.5 frames per second. The E-420's burst rate is perfect for capturing the ideal shot at backyard birthday parties or at youth soccer games

The E420's Auto White Balance function analyzes information from the scene and calibrates how a white object should appear under a variety of light sources, so your images turn out vibrant and life like

The benefits of the Four Thirds Mount on the E-420 are many. You get a digitally designed image sensor, a compact design, as well as expandability and compatibility with the rest of the Four Thirds System

Olympus' Zuiko Digital lenses provide edge-to-edge pixel-perfect clarity. Unlike film lenses, these advanced, precision-engineered 100-percent digital lenses are designed to work perfectly with all the camera's digital technology.

Nikon P90

The Nikon P90 is a 12.1 megapixel point and shoot camera with a 24x optical zoom and 3″ LCD screen. It also boasts a 15 frame per second capture rate. Of course, with the superzoom lens, it features optical vibration reduction to reduce camera shake blur. In the “why bother” category, Nikon gives the P90 a max sensitivity of ISO 6400. The Nikon P90 should be available in March 2009 for $399.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.

More info in the press release below.

MELVILLE, NY (Feb. 2, 2009) – Photographers seeking high performance with a long zoom in a compact body now have the ideal camera with Nikon’s unveiling of the new P90. As part of the flagship Performance Series of COOLPIX cameras, the P90 offers new features that include a 24x Optical Zoom, a new 3.0-inch vari-angle LCD monitor with tilt function and anti-reflection coating; and 15 frame-per-second (fps)* high-speed capability (up to 45 frames). The P90 is the ideal photographic tool for photo enthusiasts, travel photographers and consumers with more advanced photography skills.

“Our portfolio of cameras is designed to ensure that any photographer, at any level can find the camera that feels right for them,” said Bill Giordano, General Manager Marketing, COOLPIX for Nikon Inc. “The P90 blends the best of the digital compact and D-SLR camera worlds, allowing the more advanced consumer to really stretch their photographic capabilities.”

The key to the versatility of the P90 is its 24x Optical Wide Angle Zoom-NIKKOR ED Glass Lens. This lens offers unbeatable compositional freedom, with its wide angle (26mm) to super telephoto coverage (624mm). The broad range lets consumers capture a variety of shots and scenes, ranging from sweeping landscapes to close-up action shots taking place on a sports field.

Additional features of the P90 include:
• 12.1 megapixels for stunning prints as large as 20 x 30 inches, while retaining fine detail.
• 3.0-inch Vari-Angle High Resolution LCD and Electronic Viewfinder make it easy to compose and share pictures with friends and family. The new LCD, with anti-reflection coating, can tilt as much as 90 degrees upward or 45 degrees downward. This enables photographers to shoot from higher angles or from the hip, and thereby make the best use of the reach and range of the 24x zoom lens. The incorporation of the high-resolution electronic viewfinder enables consumers to see through the lens in any lighting condition.
• 4-Way Vibration Reduction (VR) Image Stabilization
o Optical VR image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by moving the image sensor, producing clearer, sharper results in lower lighting or unsteady conditions.
o Motion Detection automatically detects moving subjects and adjusts shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for camera shake and subject movement.
o High ISO 6400**capability creates new opportunities to take sharper, more natural-looking photos in lower light conditions (ISO 3200 and 6400) .
o Nikon’s original Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically takes up to 10 shots while the user presses the shutter, and saves the sharpest image.
• Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual Exposure modes give ultimate control over images. The D-SLR-type mode-dial on the top of the camera offers consumers greater personal and creative control, in any type of lighting condition.
• New Sport Continuous Scene Mode for shooting at up to 15fps* (up to 45 frames). This high-speed capture setting helps photographers stay ahead of the action.
• Smart Portrait System, which integrates the following to make it a snap to capture stunning portrait photos of friends and family:
o In-Camera Red-Eye Fix™, which automatically fixes most instances of red-eye.
o Enhanced Face-Priority **, which can detect up to 12 faces from a variety of angles, including straight on, from the side, or even in a multitude of three-quarter positions.
o Smile Mode, which automatically detects when your subject smiles and releases the shutter.
o Blink Proof, which automatically takes two shots and saves the one in which the subject’s eyes are open.

The P90 will be available nationwide in March 2009 and will retail at $399.95.

That might be something my wife would like. She wants a second, smaller camera that she can take with her wherever she goes, this might be perfect for her. She has a Nikon D90 now.

Yep, showed that P90 to my wife and now she wants it. So now she'll have the D90 and P90. Oh well, at least she said she'd sell some of her Transformers to get it, like she did to get the D90.

I didn't have to sell anything to get the Challenger :)
