The last 2 "Great" RBs we've had (for an extended amount of time), we traded up for both of them. We won superbowls with those RBs.

Just sayin'.

Funny thing to me, Felix has gotten alot of support here, but what if Barber was to walk.......would we want Felix then??

Bet not.

I surely hope something can be worked out with Barber, but we do have to be prepared for anything. If we are even considering a first round pick to back him up, there is noway he is worth over $40 million. Just too much money in the position.

If we feel that Barber is not going to budge on his contract demands, I could see us moving up for Mendenhall.

Given Barber's current salary demands, I could see trading up for a running back rising up on the priority list. And given the new draft value chart making the rounds, Dallas' two #1's are close to equal of the #4 overall pick.

And given some of the players the Raiders are having visit.

As crazy as it might have seemed, guys like Rampage and Dbair may end up being right about a deal for McFadden.

Dallas didn't think it had a super bowl roster, minus a RB when we drafted Emmitt. There were plenty of other holes. Actually Jimmy Johnson had just picked up Terrence Flagler in the offseason from San Francisco and RB was one of the Cowboys "not need" positions.

Jimmy tried like heck to trade up for James Francis (DE) and when that failed he tried to get Ray Agnew (DT). Then after all of that failed and he saw Emmitt falling, Jimmy moved up to the 17th pick to draft Emmitt.

I still remember Jimmy's quote (or close to it) when questioned why he'd draft Emmitt when he already had Flagler. He said (Paraphrasing): "Terrence will make you go 'Wow' when you watch him run. Emmitt will take your breath away."

No, we had a lot of holes that needed help more than RB. Jimmy just took a great player who had fallen down the draft board.

I wouldn't rule it out at all, especially since I can see McFadden falling to #6 or #7... Or lower.

As much as we all love how hard Barber plays, I still have my doubts about how many good years we'd get out of him with that style of his.

Bradshaw was 1st round material, but character issues bumped him all the way down to the 7th.

Otherwise-the Giants had Derrick Ward contributing nicely before his injury as well, until Bradshaw stepped in late in the season once he learned the system.

We had Robert Newhouse and Preston Pearson (both pretty good RBs) but traded up for Dorsett in 1977.

We had no one in 1990 so we could of drafted almost any position and it would have been an upgrade. :D

Let's see what you think of those RBs in 2-3 years.

Sorry but we don't have "Glaring" holes at any position. PERIOD.

We could use better quality DEPTH at those positions, but none of them are glaring.

Settle down with the "Glaring", Drama Queen.

i'm starting to think R. Mendenhall will be better then McFadden. McFad has the sprinter north and south speed but doesn't seem it when it comes to east and west. Mendenhall doesn't have McFad's sprinter speed but still has game and has better lateral movement, which is very key Emmitt had perfect lateral movement

1. Get your eyes checked, DMAC has plenty of wiggle (aka he can run east/west).

2. Even if it were a "weakness" for him, he has MUCH better wiggle than Mendenhall.

3. Here's a look into Mendenhall's future...

I would like us to get Rice. He has the tools to be a number 1 back and can help in the passing game and has the build to block the blitz.

Other than depth, I don't really see any glaring holes, other than #2 WR. Sometimes you need star impact players, and I believe we are in that situation at the moment.

Mendenhall is good, and I like him, but I do wish we didn't compare every potential running back to Emmitt. Just like a fingerprint, all RBs are different in some way or another. BTW, vision and speed can make up for a lack of wiggle, although DMac doesn't really lack in wiggle, but of course he doesn't have the most in the world. Running a 4.3 at a LB, doesn't take much wiggle to make him flitch and make a mistake, in college or the NFL.

Actually with the departure of Nate Jones and Jaque Reeves we do have a Glaring hole at CB. We have no Nickle CB and how many times has Henry made it through a full season without an injury? All we have backing up our corners and at nickle are a couple of late round draft picks that are hardly more than rookies. We still don't have Pacman and we NEED help at the CB position.

And with Owens age and Glenns doubtful return from injury I don't know that any of the young guys can step in and do the job. We all love our young WR's but how good are they really. Crayton is a great slot reciever but he really fell short in the playoffs as the #2 and he doesn't have the speed we need to stretch the field. WR may not be a glairing need but it is shinning pretty brightly as a need. At least as brightly as the RB position IMO.

Yeah, but Jones and Reeves were late round picks that filled in the role. I would like to get an early pick at CB to solidify that position, but by the same token, it isn't as glaring of a need as is made out to be. To be honest, none of our needs are......what we want and what we need are two different things.

I would love to have a #2 WR, a #3 CB, and a #2 RB (with #2 RB being last), but if we have a chance to get a star in one of those positions, it does take priority over depth. Right now, we could get a star in more than one of them.

We had a glaring hold at CB BEFORE those guys left.
