If football games were one quarter long instead of four then Joseph Randle would be a Hall of Famer. The guy has a split personality productivity wise.

He is tied for the second most carries in the first quarter with Adrian Peterson and Frank Gore, just one carry less than Matt Forte but he is blowing them away in the first quarter averaging 7.93 yards a carry, Peterson is averaging 3.76 yards, Forte 4.6 and Gore 2.64 in the 1st quarter.

For the rest of the game Randle averages .18 yards a carry....as in six and a half inches. Adrian Peterson averages 6.95 yards a carry during the remaining three quarters.

Darren McFadden has yet to carry the ball in the first quarter but he is averaging 4.13 yards a carry.

Thanks for sharing.

This seems to support the assertion that Randle is great with limited touches, but fades when asked to carry the load.

Extracting data from stats isn't anywhere near as useful as extracting data from the actual game play. There are way way way to many factors in a play that do not show up on the stat sheet.

The "data," however, was not extracted from stats. Pure eye-test observation. Last year, after D Murray had wore defenses down, Randle was able to pull off some awesome runs and ended the year with a fairly high average per carry. Despite that, many here, myself included, where not sold on his ability to carry the load. And so far I'm still not for the aforementioned reason.

Don't get me wrong. He's adequate in his current role. But in terms of making this offense Romo-friendly, he falls short. He cannot help the team in the same manner the D Murray did last year. For that matter, from the looks of it, neither could D Murray.

If you want to make the argument that he is one of the best complimentary backs in the league, I'm certainly with you. In that role, he's awesome.

He is, but nothing more.

I agree. I think that Jerry Jones made the same mistake he made with Marion Barber.....minus the contract. Barber was excellent in his cleanup role, a real finisher but he didn't have the ability to play at such a high energy level all game long, I doubt anybody does. He wore down.

Randle is good for 10 carries and then he flatlines. That's okay so long as he's used correctly, I think they just need to distribute those ten carries throughout the game, which means that there needs to be a different starter. I see no reason not to give both McFadden and Michaels a shot at more carries.

If neither works out then lets see if anybody out there can do better.

Next year they need to make a serious commitment to the RB position, using the draft I hope.

I guess there are alot of fans who don't watch the games. Randle's been playing 1st and 3rd quarters and McFadden 2nd and 4th. Of course the 4th we've been behind so that skews the stats.

I'll totally agree with you there. He's a great complimentary/change-of-pace back. He's just not a work horse back.

Problem is all of these backs are basically that same kind of back. There is no workhouse on the roster. I like McFadden, but I think Dallas is afraid he'll get injured if they give him too much of a workload and I can't fault them for that. Randle has to have the play perfectly blocked because he can't break any tackles. Michael is an unknown at this point, but based on what we saw in Seattle he's not a feature back either. He appears to be a physical runner, but really downhill isn't his running style.
