Justin Beriault

I have a feeling that are going to give this guy a chance at Free safety. This guy showed some flashes of talent last year before he was hurt.

I'm with you, let's hope his knees don't give him any trouble this year.

He was a playmaker, if only for a few quarters.

He played less than 4 qtrs and had an INT, SACK, Forced a SAFETY, and laid a few good hits on people.

I'd really like to see him play a full season.

I was thinking about making a thread on this guy myself, hah. I liked what I saw last year, I think he has a better football head on his shoulders than Davis. Maybe not as physically gifted, but I'd like an intelligent player like Woody was back there.

I agree. I recall BP didn't want to move him from SS last season b/c he said he didn't want to place too much on him as a rookie. I suspected they wanted to see what they had in Keith Davis, too, frankly. I think he moves this season. I also think Davis is going to have a stellar camp at FS.

That said, it'd be foolish not to bring in a vet to compete for the starting spot.

I like him too, but if we are banking on this guy we are in trouble. I wouldn't mind signing Coleman for some solid insurance.

I'm a HUGE Beriault supporter. Here's some info on him:

His combine numbers and ranks for the 2005 safety draft class:
  • 4.52 - 40 = as fast a Pool and Butler, faster if you include the shuttle drill for acceleration
  • 39 1/2" vert = #4 of the FS prospects and #1 of the SS prospects. Was taller than all other players who jumped higher at 6'2 5/8"
  • 3.81 shuttle = #1 of all the FS & SS prospects
  • 6.93 cone = #1 of all the FS & SS prospects
  • 11'0" broad jump = #2 of the FS by 1" and #1 of SS
On Top of his Safety Ranking he Ranked:
  • Fastest 20 yard shuttle overall: Justin Beriault (Ball State) 3.81
  • 3rd fastest 60 yard shuttle overall: Justin Beriault (Ball State) 10.82
  • Fastest 60 yard shuttle for safeties: Justin Beriault (Ball State) 10.82
That is some SERIOUS agility & acceleration to be the fastest at the 20 yard shuttle

Is his knee condition degenerative? That is my biggest concern.

I'm not sure where all this Ber-iO love comes from.

When was the last time we drafted a 6th rounder who made a contribution.

Sorry if my fingers aren't crossed.

no one is saying he is the next darren woodson, all that is being said is that he showed some promise

When did he show promise? He played a few preseason games and looked ok.

If preseason were an indicator, Woody Dantzler would be the NFL MVP.

I think this hope for Beriault speaks to how dissappointed we are in Keith Davis. At least that's how I feel.

Davis was NOT an impact player. He didn't show any promise in preseason and that held true for the regular season.

Let's stop and analyze where Beriault may be in the development cycle. He was a strong safety in the Mid American conference, not a power house. He goes down for the count before the season begins. He has probably rehabbed around Valley Ranch, but as to learning the new position, he has spent minimal time, unless watching film counts.

If the Cowboys are banking their free safety needs on him, then they are taking a bigger risk than they did with Keith Davis.

If the position is so important, why do the Cowboys treat it so lightly?
