A disaster. It's what happens when you reach for need.

I have no idea how Pugh has a 1st/2nd round rating.

I don't understand the hate for Pugh here. He probably isn't quite as strong as you would like for a NFL guard, but if that's the worst thing you point out for a rookie he's in pretty good shape. He's got better intangibles and technique than most other rookies you're going to see. He was developed by Dough Marrone who was a long time NFL o line coach and now head coach for the Bills. He was a very good college LT and converting to OG for the NFL which means he will have at least above average feet. Shortish arms could also be a slight problem, but should be able to get by just fine at OG.

So what exactly is the problem with him? Not that he should be, or is, an option at 18, but at 47 I think he makes a pretty damn good pick.

I'm not huge Pugh fan, but I bet his career is way better than Carver's. In fact, I feel sure he becomes an NFL starter evenutally and has at least a JAG starter creer.
I say to "no" in the first round for sure, but after that, I'm not too down on him.

Is her better than all of these players? A better question might be is he better than any of these players?

Terron Armstead
*Alvin Bailey
Brian Winters
Larry Warford
Khaled Holmes
Vinston Painter
David Quessenberry
*Travis Frederick
J.C. Tretter

Injured Players
Dallas Thomas
Barrett Jones
*Chris Faulk
Brennan Williams

I bolded the players I think Pugh is definitely better than. And I would say he is probably on the same level as Warford, Winters, Bailey, and Thomas. I won't argue that some of those have better value because they will be chosen in later rounds, but I've already stated that Pugh is purely a 2nd round talent is probably getting overrated a bit.

And why completely ignore the rest of my post and not try to make a counter argument? His arms are about 1 1/2 inches shorter than you'd like and he needs to hit the weight room like most NFL rookies. Do you have any other complaints about him?

I'm just trying to understand the ranking for Pugh.

Your input about his coaching is the best thing that anybody has presented in the plus column; however, for me, great coaching/experience puts a player ahead of some others by about a year (full season). The problem is that Pugh needs a year to get strong enough for the NFL. After a year, guys like Terron Armstead will have had a year of NFL coaching and continue to have more physical upside.

IMO, at best, Pugh should be ranked somewhere around David Quessenberry. They have similar size and athleticism. Quessenberry has longer arms (33-3/8" vs 31-1/2") and "appears" to be a little stronger. Both were college Left Tackles.
