There were two key things about this game IMO.

One is that we are 7-6 now and even as snakebit as this season has been, they still have a shot at the playoffs. There is one more game left in Zeke’s suspension and even going in as a wildcard, this team has the talent to go deep in the playoffs.

The second thing is the play of the rookie DBs. I said last week that the 2018 Awuzie and Lewis will be better than the 2016 version of Carr and Claiborne. In this game they are probably already better, right now.

If you tell an NFL OC (especially one starting a veteran QB) that his opponent will have three rookies in their secondary, none of whom are a 1st round pick, he will see a Doctor because it will last four hours or longer. But in this game the three rookies played very well. Yes, it’s the Giants but the defense made key stop after key stop in the 4th Quarter with the score tied. The three rookies had six passes defended. And they did it with their second best pass rusher out.

My only criticism of those three is that when it was clear it would be a physical game with contact allowed in the passing game, they should have been more aggressive. That kind of adjustment will come in time, the Giants DBs knew this and had multiple plays that would have been called PI in a tightly called game.

Some random notes –

Funny how the threads about Dak being terrible disappear when he doesn’t have to make up a 20 point deficit.

Sean Lee almost had twice as many tackles as New York had points. Is there any question that he is the heart and soul of this defense?

Probably my favorite play of the year was in this game. Olivier Vernon has a straight shot at Dak and Dak somehow escapes. Vernon then leaves with an injury on the play. You can’t write a movie script that funny if you try.

Dak had a great game but started out throwing a wobbly ball. He is playing through an injury and I don’t know if the change was adrenaline kicking in or a mechanical adjustment – but I hope the problem is gone for good.

We really need to upgrade from TWill and from Morris. Morris is a solid backup and is OK at this point as fresh legs running against tired defenses, but we need a better #2 and a Dunbar type of 3rd down back. Rod Smith is great in his current role, as we saw today.

I saw Switzer as a failed pick until the last couple of games but he seems to have turned a corner. Its not unusual for return guys to take some time adjusting to the NFL, Dwayne Harris was outstanding and didn’t even make the 53 in his rookie year. Next year Switzer should be a weapon.

DLaw played much better than his stat line.

My only regret about this game is that it might be the last time we get to see Sad Eli Face:

Morris is averaging 5 ypc which is more than Elliot. A lot of that has to do with the OLine finally gelling and perhaps the opponents but Morris is a more than adequate backup. RBs are pretty easy to find though so whatever.

Our biggest needs are WR, safety, and linebacker. A DT and a backup tackle might also not be a terrible idea though we have been making due.

Personally, if we could draft either Riley or Sutton I would be ecstatic.

Totally agree WR is our top offseason priority and the draft is the most likely place to fill that spot.

Morris is averaging 4.4 as a starter, his overall YPC is over 5 because of that one 70 yard run against the Rams.

Morris has more than 6 ypc. He's carried maybe 80 times.

He had one 70 yard run. Ya think that might skew things a bit?

I have an MBA and was a CPA. I understand statistics very well. His ypc are 5. Here is his NFL page:

Yes a 70 yard run skews the average, but he's had 97 carries to even things out. Every other back with 100 carries has likely had long runs as well (save Elliott sadly). My argument isn't that he's better than Elliott, simply that he's a more than adequate backup and we have bigger needs.

Next time you want to contradict someone, 1) get your facts straight and 2) contradict someone who isn't light year's smarter than you. Thanks.

Yeah right, You and every other homer were about ready to start crying in that fourth quarter. Tell the truth that stench of a giants team we beat should have been beating us because dak is a scrub.

Thanks Kaiser always appreciate your roll

He looked bad long before the score got bad in those other games so take your BS and stick it where the sun don't shine.
He LOOKS like he has got it back together but to me the Seattle game will show if he really has turned the corner this year. Two in a row against very good D's would be a really good indicator. Oakland, their D is not exactly top grade.

It goes beyond that.
An area where stats cause me to go crazy is that they are relational but almost never used as such.

Don't compare Morris versus 7 in the box with Dak as the main focus of the defense with the same stats versus Zeke with 8 in the box.

I am fine with Morris as a back up but he is most definitely a back up. He lacks size, explosiveness and top end speed. But he will follow his blockers, holds onto the ball and runs very hard.

which is really all you can reasonably expect from a backup.

The two best things that have happened to this team are Rogers going down and now Wentz. That is the only shot they have to do anything.

are you serious? awake? alive?

The reason we weren't ahead by a large margin earlier was a combined 4 BAD drops by WRs and 3 missed kicks by the insanely good Dan Bailey.
It also didn't help the interior DL was getting gashed minus David Irving so the Giants drives were all 6 minutes long.

Defenses have adjusted and are focusing on Dak. They are making him stand in the pocket and trust his WRs.

That has exposed our lack of athleticism in that area. Dez, Witten, Cole and TWill are a solid group but that have all have flaws.

Once the receiving corps made a few plays for him all of a sudden we were up 2 TDs quick.

and we cannot rely on our WRs to do that consistently.
