The year was 2018 and the Cowboy’s record sat at 3-5. The Dallas WR corp had a mass outbreak of Crappy-19 but was only one move away from recovery. They traded a #1 pick for Amari Cooper and won 7 of their next 8 games. The addition of Cooper was the one thing that changed the entire team by curing their key weakness.

In 2020 Dallas can still make that kind of turnaround. Losing two Pro Bowl caliber OTs automatically drops a team that could go 12-4 down to something like 9-7, but in our Division a 9-7 record might win the Division by two games.

But there are four factors in turning things around this year, not one –

1 – Get the defensive starters back. LVE is a huge loss that will make an impact when he returns - but the more obvious moves are Awuzie and Anthony Brown returning at CB. Donovan Wilson starting over Thompson is an improvement that should be permanent.

Look at the first game where Dallas gave up 20 points to a talented Rams team. The Rams scored 37 and 35 points in their next two games. The main difference from the Rams game going forward to games of giving up 38 and 40 points was the secondary in disarray. Bringing back the starters and letting the top five of Diggs, Awuzie, Brown, Woods and Wilson settle into their roles will make a big impact.

2 – Let the defense get enough reps to develop some cohesion and become comfortable with the new scheme. Let the defensive coaches scale back the scheme changes to let the returning starter do what they do best. Let those five above start in the secondary and give Hill and Woods most of the DT reps. The group will gain enough cohesion working together and the improvement will be dramatic.

3 – Develop some cohesion on the OL with two consistent Tackles. My first preference would be Knight at RT with Cam Erving at LT if he can play at even the level he showed last year in KC. Merely average play for the OTs will be a dramatic improvement over the last couple of games. Erving/Knight (or maybe Senat) would be my first choice, a midseason trade of a 4th or 5th round pick for a decent starter would be second, then Martin at OT with McGovern at OG would be third.

4 – let the young players develop. Lamb, Diggs, Schultz, Biadasz, Trysten Hill and Donovan Wilson (maybe McGovern) are all young players that will improve as they continue to start.

Don’t lose faith, there are plenty of reason to think this team could make the playoffs – and in the playoffs anything can happen.

they also changed OL coaches so maybe a change in DC even if its unofficial can help..

but being positive right now is unpopular but i commend your bravery in here LOL

you are correct its never over record wise until you ate mathematically eliminated. We have time

i mean the colts did the same thing that year and last year the titans changed QBs changed offensive philosophy after it looked all but over and ended in the afccg..

I think Lve loss was huge for this defense. He is a very instinctive playmaker that will get his hands on many passes. 1 turnover created in these 4 games, could of meant another victory. He might be that catalyst type player that can turn around this defense in a hurry. He has to stay healthy.

Team absolutely has to get both Awuzie/Brown back, we saw how bad both Lewis/Worley have been in their absence.

If we can improve defensively we should win the majority of our remaining games. It looks bad now but I can see it happening.

You're not wrong. Let's see it happen.

Please send me a bottle of what you're sipping though if you can. Thx.

I can still hear the same crowd that applauded the Awuzie/Brown exit, except now they are crying even louder about how bad it is..
So I hear you, a returning Awuzie/Brown will be welcome with open arms.

Getting brown back will help. If we can get awuzie on the field that's even better. Getting LVE back will help only if smith can come off the field. Thank goodness the giants have zero nfl calibre weapons on offense. We should win by 30. The following week is a better test to see if we can actually compete vs nfl offenses.

"In the playoffs anything can happen," unless you're the 21st century Cowboys for whom the divisional round has been a brick wall.

The Chiefs were 2-8 in the 21st century playoffs before last season.

they won’t have “zero offense weapons” come Sunday because I assure you the Giants will have 5 hall of fame receivers rise out of no where.

Giants 24 - Cowboys 17 And that is optimistic given how bad this defense is. They can be as angry as they want but I don't think that will keep Jaylon Smith from overrunning plays. The Cowboys are bad defending the pass and the run which means even a bad offense can be balanced against them.

For them to have a chance to win, Demarcus Lawrence needs to do something he has not done in about 20 games, pressure the QB consistently. Jaylon Smith needs to play down hill. Whoever is playing safety need to remember who they are supposed to cover and the CBs need to take the ball away once every 10 games or so. That would help.

This staff seems to like Steele. I don't really see it but they must think he's going to improve with more snaps

LVE is a huge loss. That's your defensive QB right there. The CBs hurt a bunch too. Lewis getting benched really kills his off season FA value. Well, so does flashing once in 4 years.
