I have two main observations –
#1 – Its amazing we won this game. You will normally lose every single time when you get three lightning strike turnovers like that. If you wait to see Jason Witten lose a pass into an opponent’s hands, you will wait five years. If you wait for Bailey to fumble into a defensive TD, you will wait five years. If you wait for both to happen in the same game again, it would take 400 years for that to happen in one game again.
#2 – this kind of sluggish first half is what you get when you don’t play your starters at all in the preseason. The upside is fewer injuries and players who are fresher late in the season, but this is the downside. All in all, I would go with the approach of not playing the starters in the preseason that Garrett is using.
Some other random thoughts -
The team is better with DMC at RB. Randle is OK but he is a Marion Barber III type of player – better on passing downs and better playing against a tired defense. But starting against a fresh defense he is merely OK. It does look like they have figured out how to utilize Dunbar, which is good news. I didn't think Dunbar would make the team this year and I'm happy to be wrong.
This is a totally different team with Dez on the sidelines also.
The people predicting doom and gloom if Claiborne started at CB were wrong.
The Cowboys plan on ODB to let him get his touches but pound him with every shot possible is probably what the rest of the NFL is going to do this season. I think the odds of him playing all 16 games are pretty slim.
Roger Goodell, while not in attendance, still sucks.
