In the combine that would be even slower, understand he still has a nagging injury but man.

NFL-Mayock

The Cal wide receiver was clocked by NFL Network's Mike Mayock at 4.71 and 4.75 seconds in the 40-yard dash at Allen's pro day Tuesday, confirming that blazing speed is not a quality he offers.
He's been hampered by a posterior cruciate ligament injury throughout the draft process, but doctors now describe Allen's left knee as fully healthy after he re-injured it in January. Trainers told Mayock that Allen only has 75 percent to 80 percent of his explosion

Most scouts love the guy. Probably falls and somebody gets a bargain.

This is all about the injury.
He's much faster than that. Not a blazer, but way better than 4.7ish

I'd grab him in the 2nd without thinking if he's there.

I would draft him. The tape and his coaching staff say he can run.

lets have more skill guys move up the board in the 2nd and push some better DL, OL prospects down to us!

I am not drafting a WR in the 2nd. We need to built from inside out!

I agree that we should not draft a WR in the 2nd. However, if this guy falls past that, I would draft him.

What did Jerry Rice run again?

I'm not discounting the 40, but running in pads in different directions is much different than shorts in a straight line. I'm also not suggesting Allen is Rice, just that too much stock is put into the 40.

I would too. Keenan Allen can flat out play.

I am sure he can. But that's not what this team needs. We have multiple positions that need upgrade in order to compete. No one blocking for Romo won't allow him to get WRs the ball any way.

To me, we need OL, DL, S and RB. WR is one of our least worries. WR is a luxury pick which we don't have.

Of course, if you promise that he'll be a HOF player then I have no problem taking him in the 2nd :)

If a guy with first round ability at an expensive position is sitting there in the middle of the second round because he was nicked up in underwear season and you pick a lesser player at a cheaper position you are hurting yourself long term.

Sticking to their board has gotten Lee, Carter and Murray the last few years. I believe all had grades at least one round higher than they were picked. On the surface WR doesnt look like a huge need but Dez and Miles arent the most durable guys on the team, and I dont think Miles makes it past this season anyway. Bottom line, I believe in sticking to your board.

Draft isn't an exact science. Who's to say how he would become in the NFL. Value is also relative. I am sure there are many would can find a DL/OL of similar value and we can certainly get more snaps out of them.

If he drops to round 3 and we have him rated as 1st round talent so the value is so lopsided like Jason Witten or Brady then yes, pick him. But until that happens....

Also there is the question of how do I get him the ball (if no one is blocking) and do we have enough balls to go around. With signing Romo to 3-4 yr contract we playing for now. We need the picks to contribute immediately especially when this team have many weaknesses.

Keenan Allen - WR - Golden Bears
NFL.com's Mike Mayock says he was told by scouts that Cal WR Keenan Allen is a 4.55 player on tape.
Allen ran a 4.71 and 4.75 40-yard dashes at his pro day, per Mayock, and the comments from the scouts comes as no surprise. Allen is a big, physical wide receiver that is a better athlete than he times and is very versatile. He can line up all over the formation and create matchup problems for defenses in ways similar to Miles Austin. Mayock said Allen could go anywhere from pick 25 to 45.

This. If the value is there I'm drafting a WR in the second round.

This guy isn't a 4.7 WR... When healthy he'll easily run in the high 4.4 range or 4.5.
