Keeping Felix Jones fresh

The Cowboys are ready to see how much Felix Jones can deliver down the stretch.

He has had double digit carries in back-to-back games for the first time in his career with 10 for 51 yards against San Diego and 14 carries for 58 yards against New Orleans. He's caught a pair of passes in two games, too.

And he's also maintained his kick return job. I wonder if they have to monitor how much he returns kicks with him doing more in the regular offense so he doesn't wear down. Kevin Ogletree and Miles Austin can also return kicks and Tashard Choice could be an option, too.

"Hopefully we don't have a whole lot of that where we wear him out," coach Wade Phillips said. "Again it's number of touches. Actually he's been getting better and better [on kick returns] ... We've almost broke a couple there lately. I think he's getting a better feel where everything is."

Practice moved to Cowboys Stadium

The Cowboys will move today's practice to Cowboys Stadium with the inclement weather coming.

The Cowboys would have practiced at TCU on Wednesday but the forecast remained good during the day. The stadium was not available Wednesday because the field was not down.

Felix still seems timid on kick returns IMO. He seems to jog his way up field and not explode until it's too late.

For the last time that's the correct way to run kickoffs, especially since there are no more wedges.

You dont just run full steam ahead. You have to let your running lanes develop, make a cut, and THEN hit the turbo.

He's doing just fine.

Then...

How come it seems like every other kick returner in the league takes off at full speed as soon as they catch the ball?

I agree. He is doing what most do looking for a seam to hit and allowing blocks to take place not just running full blast down the field. As funny as it may sound the differance between a 20 yard gain on a return and a TD is sometimes no more than 1 block. All Felix is doing is allowing those blocks to take place

I hope Felix only needs to return one kick per game, at either the start of the game or start of 2nd half.

No kidding, we don't need to wear him out returning kicks and taking away his touches that Wade eluded to.
It's up to the defense to keep Felix fresh.:)

Felix Jones look as though he's still trying to figure out the block schemes for the kickoff returns... Didn't the NFL changes the rules on wedge blocking?
