What do you guys think about Fitzhugh? I love his profile. He's too short and not imposing in any area, but he has pretty decent quickness and speed, and his coaches supposedly loved him. Seems like an intelligent kid with no character concerns at all. Made a bunch of plays at the Shrine game. As I've posted before, I saw Miss. State a couple of times this year and was struck at how aggressive and hard hitting their LBs and especially safeties were, and looking back on it, he was probably one of the guys I noticed. I think he fits the mold of what Wade is looking for as far as "football players" who may not be the best athletes, but who are aggressive, tough, and like to play the game.
Now I've focused on Fitzhugh, but Pegues is a better athlete and ball hawk (and probably propect). But I'm not sure he's big enough at under 200 lbs to hold up. Then again, Delmas is only a couple of pounds heavier, and everyone loves him. And Pegues put up good numbers on the bench, so he's not that weak. One thing about Pegues is he has great ball skills and looks to me like an outstanding punt returner. I think he'd actually be good enough to take over that job for us. But, I still think Wade sees Hamlin as a FS and doesn't want to move him to strong.
I almost like Pegues better, I just don't think we have a position for him. Fitzhugh reminds me of a Mike Brown type who is on the short side and doesn't have great measurables, but is stocky enough to play the run and is smart and dependable. With his profile, he'd probably be good on special teams.
And BTW, not that either guy would be "the answer", especially Fitzhugh. But he might be a guy you get into camp as a special teamer and he surprises you at how well he plays on defense.
Any thoughts on these guys?
