Kellen Winslow

As soon as I heard he was released I said what a great fit he would be here

His propensity to get hurt scares me some but he want come at a high price

both healthy him and Witten could be lethal in 2 TE sets. Hes not in prime form but still is not far removed from his 75 catch season. His snaps here will be more limited as the backup which will probably keep him fresher and more likely to finish out the season healthy

Winslow wouldnt want to play for the Cowboys... they have a Caucasian head coach.

Remember when he was picking a college and daddy said he could only play for a black head coach?????

Ummm, you might have him confused.....his Coach at the U was Larry Coker.

Yeah but his attitude stinks. No thanks.

You don't sign a player with bad knees before week one. The contract would guaranteed. Why do people seem to think we should sign every big name which is cut?

I would take KW Sr right now over even thinking about Jr.
Please tell me no one is serious about this.

Maybe we already have a future Winslow type on the roster in Hanna.

We're not looking for another pass catcher; we don't have a TE on the team who is a better blocker than Witten. This is a move to replace what we lost in Bennett.

I don't have him confused at all... .His father made some real asinine statements about his son only going to a college with a black head coach.... had he been white, he would have been crucified for the comments.

The son going to U of Miami only made the father look like a hypocrit.

Not exactly. His father wanted him to go to a school where minorities were in a position of authority. Whether in athletics or academics. Not sure how that became "Only play for a black head coach".

Especially considering he ended up playing for both a white coach and his mom is white.

That isn't exactly true. His dad was unhappy that the school Jr initially chose had no African American coaches on staff and suggested that a professor in Sociology could serve as Jr's mentor.

I think that honestly Sr knew his kid was a bit of a knucklehead and wanted someone to be his proxy. Of course, you don't necessarily have to be African American to be a good mentor to a young African American kid -- but it is also true that many folks are going to be more comfortable (at least initially) with someone with a similar background.

Dad really didn't present the issue in the right way, but he did have a point about lack of diversity at the college coaching ranks in many big programs at the time

Well, thats a nice spin....

What if a white man said he only wanted his child to play at a school were whites ran the show?

Let it go.

None of us want racially-based debates being run up the flagpole here. Wrong forum for that and it's against the rules.

Respect that, would you? Please.

The difference here is that when you come from a minority background you have far fewer role models who are from the same background as you. A White kid would never have a hard time finding same race role models at 99% of the college programs in the nation.

Further, I think you are taking this as Sr saying "I hate White people!" Rather than wanting his son exposed to successful and authoritative members of his own race. Again, a huge difference.

First of all, it wasn't about who ran the show. It was about Sr. passing a life lesson down to his son, who was too young to know any better.

Secondly, if you see those two things as the same then trying to argue otherwise with you would be a waste of time for both of us.
