It takes a lot to get me to sit in front of a TV non sports related but this series is gold.

He also did an amazing 10 part series on the history of Baseball and another on the Civil War.

Recorded all episodes of this today. Have watched about a 1/3 of them and found it to be very interesting, especially being that I like old Country. 10/10

canada 1957...that was Elvis' last tour before his hitch in the Army.
amazing footage.
makes me wonder if there is more to be found.

Wouldn't surprise me, there was a ton of great footage in the series much of it had never seen before. Still gotta watch the latter episode{64-68},

Missed the first one so I am waiting to see if they do a back to back so I can record it. Not a Country fan but I am a fan of Ken Burns and his docs are great. His doc, Jazz, was excellent and I wonder if he's planning one for Rock?

The Vietnam War is probably his best work. Outstanding.

Episode 5

Buck Owens pledge to Country Music fans...."I Shall Sing No Song That Is Not A Country Song."

Ken Burns narrator "On tour, he & the Buckaroos incorporated a comedy routine to their act. Donning Beatles wigs and playing their songs, and his own records benefited from the exposure."


So, did Buck play their songs onstage, but didn't sing? Since that would go against his pledge.

Oh ya, about Elvis, he did record an original country music song, written by local Memphis theater owner Jack Sallee. It was given to Phillips as he wanted an original song for it's publishing rights. Nothing else is known by the song writer, no known photo exists.

The song was "You're A Heartbreaker", which became the B side to "Milkcow Blues Boogie". Recorded in December 8, 1954, released January 8th, 1955.

Not mentioned in the Burn's documentary though. I think it's one of Presley's unknown gems.

If its not on Netflix now, it probably will be soon. They usually have his stuff. It did take about 6 months for them to get Vietnam though

Probably the most captivated I've been by one of Burns' documentaries. However the last two episodes seemed a little rushed compared to some of the earlier time periods to me.
