Clearly Jerrys looking to upgrade. However Id rather have Adam present before I talk about how to go about acquiring Atogwe.
I think theyll try but not go nuts over it. They do have Ball, the good Hamlin, and 2 picks in the top 59.
The draft is shaping up weird this year. Were kind of sitting in no mans land at both picks. I think they rather have like 40 and 45 rather than 27 and 59.
Lets see what happens but one thing they can do is a trade down than back up. Getting Nate Allen and Roger Saffold.

I think that, if Hamlin hadn't been scheduled to make $6 million then he'd probably still be around. Now, I don't think Hamlin was a great player, but I do think he did what he was asked to do in our scheme. Unfortunately for him, there's just no need to pay a guy that kind of money for the responsibilities he was asked to shoulder.
I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't draft a safety (I also wouldn't be shocked if we did). As some other posters have suggested, it may make more sense to draft a guy like Devin McCourtey and then have Ball and M. Hamlin battle it out for the FS position. If that's what happens, then I think we'll see a similar role for the FS as last year. However, if we do draft a safety high, then I would bet that it meant a shift in our defensive scheme.
As far as the picks, I think you're right that a trade down is a serious possibility.

We could trade down. We could take our chance later in the draft, we could take our chance moving Ball to FS, we could take a chance with the other Hamlin on the roster or we can bring in a FS via a trade of FA.

1. Trading down, select Nate Allen or Morgan Burnett.
2. Start Alan Ball at FS
3. ???
dcfanatic;3329502 said:How do you not even mention Michael Hamlin in this.
Pay attention.
MarionBarberThe4th;3329340 said:At the same time I think theyd gladly give Atogwe a similar deal. That would mean they could keep Ball where he is and get up for Mike Iupati
I think we are in a position where we dont have to reach for a Nate Allen at 27. A guy like Mccourty could be a jack of all trades in year 1, then start in Newmans place year 2.
I think Iupati will be gone so what this draft will come down to is do they like Mccourty enough to not trade down.
And if for some reason Dez Bryants there does he roll the dice, or does he take what we think would be a nice deal from TB trying to get back up into the 1st for him.
Something to keep in mind is next yeas CB class looks weak and we obviously are in line for a starter opposite Jenkins.
CanuckCowboysFan;3329558 said:Just watch. Next year Hamlin's going to have 5+ INT and 90+ tackles and everyones going to ***** about how Jerry released him.
If Allen runs a sub 4.5 then 27 wouldn't be a reach. And Newman has a lot more left in him then a year. If we do select Mccourty I think he'd replace Newman in 3-4 years. Not year 2. JMO. Plus what if KW's on the board?
